Commercial Drivers Warning to President Mahama

MR CHAIRMAN, COMMERCIAL DRIVER ASSOCIATION (GREATER ACCRA) ASSOCIATIONS, REGIONAL EXECUTIVES, LOCAL EXECUTIVES, MEMBERS, THE MEDIA,DISTINGUISHED GUEST, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

The Commercial Drivers Association Greater Accra wishes to bring to your attention the Hardships that the incompetent administration of N.D.C has brought to bear on Commercial Drivers over for the past (4) four years that they assumed office.

We the Commercial drivers voted massively for the N.D.C during the 2008 election with the conviction that things will change for the better under the Attah Mills –Mahama administration. Indeed they made a lot of promises, including REDUCTION OF PRICE OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS drastically; FREE SCHOOL UNIFORMS for our children and access to bank loans to enable us drive our own cars, among other unfulfilled promises.

FAILED &UNFULFILLED PROMISES

The Government of the N.D.C during the Electioneering Campaign in 2008 promised to reduce the prices of fuel drastically, but what do we see, it has rather gone up drastically.

Ghanaian now pays GH¢8.00 instead of GH¢6.55 for a gallon of premium; GH¢8.00 instead of GH¢5.96 for diesel and GH¢3.68 for a gallon of kerosene. We are reliably informed that the Mills - Mahama Government has added a hidden tax of GhC1.00 per gallon without parliamentary approval and monies accrued from this illegal tax have been lodged in “SPECIAL ACCOUNTS”. Kweku Kwarten took the matter to court and the court ordered payment into the consolidated account, which has not been done. Is this money which is being used for NDC campaign? Or building luxurious fuel stations or buying houses and cars? We want to know.

ROAD TOLLS

The N.D.C governments have increased ROAD TOLLS over 1000% and despite the astronomical increment in road tolls by the ruling N.D.C government, no significant improvement have been seen on our roads. We continue to see a lot of pot holes on our roads, Traffic lights are not functioning properly and almost all of our street lights have gone off.

Today a driver who plies from KASOA to ACCRA and its environment pays a toll of (GH¢10.00) that is (¢100,000.00) in old Cedis a day (GH¢300.00) that is ¢3million old Cedis a month and (GH¢3,600.00) that is ¢36 million a year. So by our calculation a driver who plies from Kasoa to Accra and its environs have paid at least (GH¢14,400.00): (¢144,000,000.00) old Cedissince N.D.C took power.

The driver contributes a lot to the government of N.D.C but cannot afford to pay for a single room and this has led most drivers sleeping in their cars and car parks.

GAS SHORTAGES

Since the N.D.C government took power there has not been a regular supply of Gas in the system for ever one week (1 week). But during the reign of President Kuffuor there was regular supply of Gas in the system to the extent that you could hear:
GAS FOℶ NO ABA OOO
GAS BIε EBA EEE EI
GAS Tℶ OVAR LOOO
MA SO GAS SON SO

Today everything about driving has gone up
ROADWORTHY has gone up
INSURANCE has gone up
INCOME TAX has also gone up
A.M.A has gone up. RENEWAL OF LICENCE has gone up
SPARE PARTS has gone up
LUBRICANTS has gone up
A 185/70R 14 used tyre which was being sold in 2008 at the cost of (¢150,000.00) is now sold at (¢500,000.00)

BANKS
Because of the BAD GOVERNANCE of the N.D.C the Banks have turned drivers into slaves. When they buy a (¢100,000,000.00) car for you, in two years you pay a hundred (100%) interest on your car. The most serious part is that the maintenance cost is done by you the driver, which in total at the end of the two years you would have paid (¢350,000,000.00) on your car. How can a driver survive under this suppressive government? And pay his children’s school fees and hospital bills, how can drivers feed his family. No wonder drivers sleep in their cars and lorry parks. So all the commercial drivers in greater Accra and beyond are throwing their support for Nana Addo’s free S.H.S. and vote massively for Nana Addo and N.P.P. to come to power come 7th December 2012.

CONCLUSION

It is time the political parties’ took drivers SERIOUSLY. Now we are sounding a warning to the Mahama led NDC government that they can’t take (drivers) for granted and that we drivers can make or unmake GOVERNMENTS.

Thank You
Ladies and Gentlemen

Prez Mahama: I did not and has not endorse any political advertising containing Pastor's Otabil's voice

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE MAHAMA 2012 CAMPAIGN IN RESPECT OF FURTHER MEDIA DISCUSSIONS & COMMENTARY ON EXCERPTS FROM DR. MENSAH OTABIL's SERMONS

President John Dramani Mahama has noted with concern the ensuing commentary in the media following the recent press conference by Dr. Mensah Otabil, General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church.

It would be recalled that subsequent to the Press Conference by Pastor Otabil, the John Mahama 2012 Campaign issued a statement to clear the air on matters relating to issues raised in the respected Pastor's press conference.

President Mahama wishes to reiterate his position that he did not and has not endorsed any political advertising containing Pastor's Otabil's voice, neither is he aware of any surrogate affiliated to him as being behind the promotion of such tapes.

President Mahama's campaign is focused on its own message of advancing the Better Ghana agenda with job creation as its pivot. The President will therefore wish to appeal to all groups of volunteers, supporters and well-wishers who believe in his message to also focus on the official campaign message of jobs, employment, stability and development, and desist from any form of campaign advertising utilising the voice of non-political actors.

The Better Ghana Agenda offers the best hope for Ghanaians in terms of putting people first, providing more employment opportunities, accessible and quality education, improved healthcare, building a strong and resilient economy, infrastructural development, peace and stability.

This message, together with the humble and affable personality of the President, makes us confident of victory in the election.

President Mahama wishes to reiterate his respect for the clergy and wishes to assure them of his commitment to ensuring that the Church and the State coexist in harmony and work in partnership towards improving the socio-economic wellbeing of our citizenry.

CPP demands Mahama apology over tribal comments

The Convention People’s Party is demanding an unqualified apology from President John Mahama for his alleged tribal comments he has made.

The Vice Presidential candidate of the party Sherita Akosua Sarpong was unequivocal in her criticisms of the president, insisting such divisive comments should not come from the president.

John Mahama is alleged to have asked northerners to vote him because he is one of them.

He was alleged to have told Northerners during his tour of the region that it was time for a northerner to become a president.

The CPP insists the president’s comments were in bad taste.

“If I got up to say every woman should vote or every Ashanti should vote for me because I am an Akan. Why should we be doing that? What about the Ewes. What about the Ga-Adangmes and all that.

“Any statement that seems to identify a political leader with a tribal group as having to vote for you based on that group should not come from any leader that wants peace in this country, simple fact and that should not be acceptable by the good people of Ghana.

“I think we need an apology from the president,” adding that statement could incite others who want his seat to go along the same tangent.

But the Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu said the President has nothing to apologise for.

“Apologise for what? President Mahama has stated publicly that he will president for all Ghanaians. He is appealing to the entire Ghanaian populace to support him on the basis of good governance to advance the better Ghana agenda of President Mills. Nowhere has President Mahama capitalized or used his tribe or ethnicity as basis to woo votes,” he stated.

He said Mahama traced his root when he visited the north but he did not use that as basis to ask for votes.

World Bank: President Mahama has stole no money

The World Bank Country Director of Ghana,Yusupha Crookes, has rebutted claims that the President of Ghana, H.E.John Dramani Mahama is being invested by his outfit for an alleged thief of $170 million which has been deposited in a Swiss Bank.

A media organisation referred to as the Associated Press News (APN) reported in October that “a Transparency International Special Investigation report has indicted the Presidents of Zimbabwe, Congo DR and Ghana for stashing huge amounts of monies into foreign bank accounts in Switzerland and Luxembourg.”

The stories were subsequently replicated in some newspapers and websites in the country.

The story said: “In the case of Ghana, the World Bank and IMF is currently investigating the current President of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama and his wife Mrs Lordina Mahama for the embezzlement of 170 million dollars of loans and grants given to Ghana since 2010 and the deposit of these monies in bank accounts in Switzerland.”

They stated that the World Bank officials working with IMF investigators started noticing huge discrepancies and gaps in Ghana’s loan payments and realised that there were irregular payments between March 2010 and June 2012 and that some payments were missing, after a forensic audit, 170 million dollars were traced to a Private Bank in Zurich, Switzerland called DZ Privatbank.

However, an official facebook status of Mr. Kofi Tsikata, the communication director at the World Bank read ''Please Note: World Bank is Not Investigating the President of Ghana. Media reports claiming that the World Bank is investigating the President of the Republic of Ghana and his wife are false. In addition, the World Bank has no knowledge of other claims made in these media reports. Signed: Yusupha Crookes. World Bank Country Director for Ghana. ”

President gives 12 Land Cruisers to chiefs

The President, John Dramani Mahama has donated 12 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to the National House of Chiefs.

Each head of the ten Regional House of Chiefs is expected to get one of the vehicles; the remaining two would be on standby, Joy News' presidential affairs correspondent Seth Kwame Boateng reported.

The president made the donation when he met the National House of Chiefs at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.

The vehicles are expected to help the chiefs in the discharge of their duties, Seth Kwame Boateng gathered.

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Naa Prof John Nabila assured President Mahama that the House was ready to extend to him the same help and respect they gave to his predecessor Prof. John Evans Atta Mills to enable him govern the country.

He also complained of inadequate budgetary allocation to the House of Chiefs, which he said is hampering their efforts to contribute to national development.

He noted that a number of chieftaincy conflicts in the country would have been solved if they had enough funds to go about their duty.

The President is expected to have a meeting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II later today.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is also in the Ashanti Region campaigning.

Luv News Kwabena Ampretwum reports that Nana Addo has been campaigning in the Amansie West district where he accused President Mahama of preaching tribal politics, and has therefore told the electorate not to listen to him.

He told the people his free SHS manifesto promise is real, and would be implemented when they give him their mandate.

Though the NPP flagbearer’s convoy had to cover some long distances, that did not deter the enthusiastic crowd from following them, Kwabena Ampretwum said.

NDC: We respect Otabil

The John Mahama 2012 Campaign has noted the issues raised in a statement to the media by Dr. Mensah Otabil, the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church earlier today.

We would wish to respectfully draw the esteemed Religious Leader's attention to the fact that in the same way as it would be difficult to hold him responsible for the expressed opinion's or moral actions of even his Pastors and other officials of the ICGC (not to mention the extended membership of his church across the length and breadth of our country and other locations where the ICGC may have congregations), it is equally difficult and actually an over-simplification to try to hold the President directly responsible, or ask him to call to order, any individual or group of individual's who may or may not have sympathies with the NDC and who are making information that is easily accessible available in the public domain.

The John Mahama 2012 campaign, like some other members of the public, are aware that Dr. Mensa Otabil's past sermons are available in the public domain and further that some of these sermons are commercially available for sale. We do not see anything wrong with that because we believe that the teachings of Religious Leader's like Dr. Mensa Otabil are inspirational and provide listener's with a clear understanding of the principles and values of the Christian faith. We are also of the view that by taking the words of the Bible and making them relevant in the context of our present day experiences, Dr. Otabil brings the key tenets of the Christian faith to life within the circumstances of our times. We believe that the words of the Bible are timeless and eternal, and commentary based on these principles also are as timeless as the concepts they seek to explain. To the extent that any of Dr. Otabil's statements in the public domain are indeed statements that have been previously made by him, and are available in the public domain we fail to see how quoting statements that one would assume were statements of principle, have suddenly become the work of evil people who are surrogates and affiliates of the NDC.

The John Mahama 2012 campaign wishes to assure Dr. Mensa Otabil that we hold him in high esteem, and have the greatest of respect for his work in bringing the word of God to his flock and to the public as a whole and wish both him and his Ministry all of God's blessings both now and in the future. We also are equally respectful of the work of all of our religious leaders in the Christian community, especially as regards the light they shed on our path by teaching and explaining the word of God.

We call on the many supporters of the NDC in Ghana and across the world to ensure that in all discussions and contributions on matters of national debate their contributions are factual. We believe this to be of essential importance in ensuring that the people of Ghana are made aware of the choices and options confronting them in this election, so that together we advance the peace and progress of our nation.

Mahama tell your ''evil'' followers to leave me alone: Otabil

The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Pastor Mensa Otabil has responded in clearest terms yet to what he calls evil attempts to expose him to public ridicule “and the running harassment against my integrity.”

He said the doctoring and manipulation of his sermons over the years to give them political twists was defamatory, unethical, criminal, malicious and evil.

In the past few weeks, a number of audio tapes have been released in which the preacher has been heard making comments that appear to criticize the political promises of the opposition New Patriotic Party.

The first tape had Dr. Otabil arguing that free education, (the NPP flag-beater Nana Akufo-Addo has promised free SHS), could never be possible.

The tape received wide publicity, prompting the church to release a statement denouncing the tape as a "collection of thoughts edited from a message shared by Pastor Otabil several years ago and pieced together to create the impression that he is taking a stand on the current political debate on the issue of education.”

But that did not deter those bent on using Dr. Otabil’s sermons for political purposes and they released many more tapes.

At this point, he said, “…I realized that I was dealing with a marauding and bullying force that was bent on impugning my name and integrity without shame.”

“But for the mischief and persistence, I would have remained quiet on this matter,” he added. But “let me state clearly,” he emphasized, “that the sound bites that have been played with my voice have been taken totally out of context; in some cases phrases from different messages I have preached over the years with no relationship to one another have been mischievously pieced together to create the impression that I was making a current contribution on the ongoing political debate.”

He said the development was not only a violation of his person and integrity but also a sign “of grave impunity for [some] individuals to cease a person’s thoughts without their consent and use it in a way that seeks to expose them to public hostility and disrespect.”

Most disturbing, he said, is the fact that even when the Church released a statement denouncing their conduct, the purveyors of the political chicanery, who had hailed him when the dubious sound bite seemed to favour their cause, turned round and condemned him.

“No one, and I repeat, no one, has the right to force their thoughts into my words; I own my thought; I own my words and I own my beliefs,” he stated.

There is a sinister force on the prowl in our nation; it is a force of impunity; it is a force of treachery; it is a force of evil, and good men in the Ghanaian society must speak out, he implored.

“When political operatives sample, splice and edit a pastor’s words to mean something other than what was intended and then go ahead to lift those words from their proper context and place them within a partisan context, that is immoral; when political operatives highjack a pastor’s words, manipulate them to build partisan jingles and play them on party information vans across the country, that is mischief; when political operatives with sinister motives deliberately position a pastor to become a target for ridicule, animosity and hostile attack, that is evil,” he lamented.

Pastor Otabil called on “all people of faith – Christians and Muslims, pastors and imams – to demand for righteousness, justice and fairness in our national discourse.”

He also called on President John Mahama to rise up and speak on this issue because “the perpetrators of these blatant acts of impunity are largely affiliates and surrogates of your party.”

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday visited former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on his sick bed at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The former Vice President was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last Saturday’ not long after he had been discharged from the same hospital.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama is currently receiving care at the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital but family members say he is in a stable condition.

Melcom disaster: Isreali rescuers arrive

Eight members of the 18-man team from Israel to help rescue any remaining survivors in the collapsed Melcom shopping mall disaster have arrived.

An unknown number of people got trapped when the five-story building collapsed at Achimota on Wednesday. Over 70 people have so far been pulled out of the rubble while nine are confirmed dead.

Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, who is at the scene, reported that the foreign rescuers arrived with sniffer dogs.

President John Mahama announced upon his visit to the scene Wednesday that external help has been sought to boost rescue efforts.

A statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson, John Abdulai Jinapor, said an 18-man Israeli team will come and work in close collaboration with the detachment from the Field Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Army currently at the site.

Mr. Jinapor said the team will make an initial assessment of the site using special equipment and sniffer dogs that will help identify the locations of possible survivors or corpses.

He indicated that an additional team of about one hundred and fifty (150) with additional equipment including field hospitals, concrete cutters among others will move to Ghana should the initial assessment deems it necessary.

Joy News' Adelaide Arthur, who was at the scene when the foreign rescuers arrived, said she saw the sniffer dogs from Isreal chasing away onlookers instead of locating the victims.

She added that a woman who's daughter had not been found by Thursday afternoon collapsed at the scene.

President vows

President Mahama went to the scene again on Thursday shortly after the arrival of the Isrealis and addressed the media.

He commended the local rescuers for a good job done so far and vowed that city authorities are going "to be held accountable" for the disaster.

National Coordinator of NADMO, Kofi Kportophy said government will provide assistance in the burial of departed victims.

Achimota Melcom collapses, 5 dead, 70 rescued

The ultra modern 6 storey Melcom-Achimota branch which is barely a year old  has collapsed.Reports reaching iNewsGh indicates that about 45 people have been trapped in the building

Rescue efforts are under way to remove the people who have been trapped in the building.

The building is barely a year old.

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama on his twitter page said ''My prayers are with the workers, shoppers and others who are trapped in the rubble of the collapsed Achimota Melcom building''

He has also visited the site after cancelling his Upper East regional campaign

FROM BBC

A multi-storey department store has collapsed in the capital of Ghana, Accra, trapping dozens of people in the rubble.
Rescue efforts are continuing, with officials saying that at least four people died in the Melcom store.
The BBC's Sammy Darko, who has visited the scene, says 42 people have been pulled out alive.
Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama said he had suspended his campaign for next month's election.
The government has declared the area in the city's Achimota neighbourhood a disaster zone.
'Terrified'

Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur went to the site and co-ordinated rescue efforts at the building, which opened earlier this year.
As night fell, hundreds of rescuers continued to dig through the rubble, amid fears that more people were trapped.
Mr Amissah-Arthur said the building had collapsed shortly before the Melcom store was due to open for business.
Rescue efforts were being hampered by the large crowd that had gathered at the site, he added.
"There's so much noise that it's not possible to hear the trapped people asking for help," Mr Amissah-Arthur said.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Melcom said it had rented the building which housed its Achimota branch on a 10-year lease.
"This is indeed a very tragic incident," it said.
"We are doing everything possible to see that help reaches those who need it. Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies goes to the families of those who may have lost their lives."
Our reporter says customers often queue outside the store before it opens and officials say they believe about 50 people may been inside at the time of the collapse.
Eyewitness Ama Okyere told the AFP news agency she was very close to the shopping centre when the building came down.
"I had to run for my life. I was so terrified. I believe there are lots of people trapped under this because this is a heavily patronised shopping mall in the area."
Family members tried to call relatives feared trapped beneath the rubble on their mobile phones, AFP reported.
Another witness, John Owusu, said he heard a bang before the building collapsed.
President Mahama, in a tweet moments after the building collapsed, said: "My prayers are with the workers, shoppers and others who are trapped in the rubble of the Achimota Melcom building."
He has cut short his campaign in the north of the country and has flown back to Accra to see the rescue effort.

Obama's victory will help Mahama to beat Nana Addo: Okudzeto

The Deputy Information Minister, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa has predicted a win for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. He made this prediction in reference to Obama's victory of his fierce contender Mitt Romney.

President Obama beat his Republican challenger Mitt Romney by securing the 270 Electoral Colleges needed to secure a second four-year term in office. With Florida's 29 electoral votes still undecided, Mr Obama won 303 electoral votes to Mr Romney's 206.

He said on JOY FM that the problems confronting the USA were created by the Republicans and therefore, the electorate felt it was not fair to quickly bring them back after four years.

He therefore prophesied that Obama's victory would be replicated by Ghanaians. Sam Okudzeto Ablakaw believes the December elections will favour the NDC as has been the trend in outcomes of US elections and how they impact those of Ghana since 1992.

“Those who are superstitious believe anytime democrats win, NDC wins and this has been happening since 1992. I am not superstitious but it is a good feeling that what keeps happening will happen,” Mr. Ablakwa maintained.

''Short man'' Nana Addo's platform was raised during the IEA meeting: NDC group

PROTEST AGAINST IEA’S PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT FOR NANA ADDO IN TAMALE

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of the Media,

Ahead of the IEA Vice-Presidential debate, we of FOJODRAMA wish to hereby register our utmost disapproval of a blatant act of favouritism and preferential treatmengt given to the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) during its recent Presidential Debate held at the Radach Hotel in Tamale.

At the said event, the IEA provided the NPP candidate with a 1-foot raised platform hidden behind his podium on which he stood to tower over his much taller contestants for an obvious psychological advantage.
None of the other three candidates, namely President John Mahama of the NDC, Dr Abu Sakara of the CPP and Mr Hassan Ayariga of the PNC were given any such raised platforms to stand on.

It is a known fact that Nana Akufo-Addo is naturally the shortest of all the nine certified presidential candidates in the 2012 elections. We of FOJODRAMA believe height does not really matter in the race to the presidency. However, we find the attempt to hide the fact of Nana’s diminutive stature at such an important function where most Ghanaians were seeing their presidential candidates for the first time, is to say the least, reprehensible.

This is even more so, when one considers that this was done in secrecy to the extent that the raised platform behind Nana’s podium had been covered with the same blue woolen carpet that covered the entire conference room and it was hidden behind his podium in such a way that it was imperceptible to anyone inside the hall.

It was only the press corps on the second floor upstairs as well as the three other presidential candidates who could see the raised platform on which Nana Addo stood to deliver his contribution to the debate throughout the entire duration.

If Nana Addo had any genuine reason for requesting that he should be given such a preferential treatment, and if the IEA felt such a request was genuine, they should have informed the public about it, and made everybody aware that they were watching an NPP candidate who was talking down at them from a raised platform.

At such an event as the IEA forum, where Ghanaian voters get to see their candidates shoulder-to-shoulder for the very first time, they deserve to be given the right to choose their leader and president by taking into consideration all the factors that they deem to be important to them.

It is the right of voters, for instance, to choose a president who would represent the nation at the UN General Assembly for instance, and would be able to reach the level of the microphone used by all other speakers without requesting for special raised platforms anywhere.

This right, we believe, is what the IEA took away from the electorate by that reprehensible act of falsifying Nana Akufo-Addo’s height to the millions of Ghanaian voters, and the several hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.

It is on behalf of this multitude that we call for nothing but an unreserved apology from the IEA, in addition to the other three presidential candidates who mounted the podium that night to present themselves to the people of Ghana without any deception in whatever shape or form, believing in an equal platform and level playing field, which was literally denied them.

A further promise by IEA not to repeat this kind of deception and favouritism in future events, especially those coming up on November 6 and 20, would be most welcome..
Thank you.

Signed

Prez denies $170b theft claim

President John Mahama has denied rumours he has diverted into his phantom personal Swiss Bank account a $170 billion World Bank loan meant for Ghana.

President Mahama says rumours of that nature will not deter him.

He was addressing a rally in the Upper West regional capital Wa to round up his campaign tour of that part of the country last night.

“They are writing all kinds of things on the internet, that I have taken 170 billion world bank money and I have to put it in a SWISS bank account. It’s the funniest story I’ve ever heard,” the president said.

He said the lies being peddled will not save the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the defeat staring in their faces, adding “who Jah bless, no man curse.”

The President has toured the three northern regions in the past one week expounding his Advancing the Better Ghana agenda.

He has also commissioned a number of projects while urging contractors to speed up various developmental projects in that part of the country.
