Bawumia: All whaat NDC has done is to enrich themselves

The vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mamudu Bawumia has described the NDC as a party that had been working for just itself since it came to power four years ago.

He made this known when he visited students in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology last Saturday. He said thatthe NPP at the time, was growing the economy in nominal dollar terms by 62% every year. 

He also added '“This election is about the future of this country and very much about your future, the future of the youth. Ghana is at a decision point and has a critical decision to make. The choice is between an NPP which has the track record of delivery and prudent economic management and an NDC which has a record of broken promises and which has only worked for itself in the last four years”.

He said “It was this prudent economic management that led to the introduction of numerous social intervention programmes and that created a vibrant economy”. 

“It was through this that we witnessed a significant growth in the banking sector with banks on standby to offer employment to graduates and credit to businesses and individuals. This is no longer the case because the NDC has lost the plot

Bawumia gives NDC 48-hour ultimatum

The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to publish within 48 hours all the schools under trees it claimed to have removed.

Dr. Bawumia said if the NDC did not comply, its credibility will be on the line.

He said this when he visited the site for the proposed Upper West Regional Hospital which had been abandoned after the sod cutting ceremony in 2010.

“They should publish the list of 1,700 schools under trees that they claim to have built,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“Ghanaians want to see the list; district by district, school by school otherwise we will have no confidence at all in their claim that they want to build 200 senior high schools because they may be hoax schools as well,” he said.

Mills-Mahama Stronger Than Mahama-Amissah Ticket - Kweku Baako

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, says the Mahama-Amissah Arthur ticket, the ruling National Democratic Congress is likely to present for the 2012 general election, is considerably weaker compared to the Mills-Mahama ticket the NDC presented in 2008.

Mr Baako made this known, Thursday, as a panelist on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme. According to Kweku Baako, the Mills-Mahama ticket the NDC presented in the 2008 elections had also been in office for the last 3½ years and therefore could consider itself well-marketed ahead of the 2012 polls.

On the other hand, he stated that the newly-formed Mahama-Amissah ticket is firstly, not a recognizable team on the ground and needs time to be marketed. Secondly, the new NDC team, in his opinion, would find it extremely tough and almost impossible to beat Akufo-Addo/Bawumia.

Throwing more light on this assertion, Kweku Baako explained that the NPP flagbearer and his running mate has, in close to two years, toured every part of this country and by this had achieved nationwide recognition.

The performance of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia team in its first attempt at the polls, where they obtained 49.77% of the vote, according to Kweku Baako should inform the NDC about the strength of the NPP candidates.

Similarly, some functionaries and activists of the NDC have expressed displeasure at the choice of Mr Amissah-Arthur as running mate as they deem it as the concession of victory to the NP ahead of the December polls.

A group calling itself the NDC Youth Coalition in a statement said, “When we heard he (Amissah-Arthur) had been appointed, none of us could immediately put a face to the name.”

National Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan, in acknowledging the plight of the NDC in the choice of Amissah-Arthur has said Mr Amissah-Arthur has not yet been endorsed as the running mate for President Mahama.

“It is not yet time for him to select his running mate for the upcoming election, that will be done at congress on 1st September; after he (Mahama) has been endorsed by popular acclamation as the flagbearer. Then he, in consultation with the party, will decide if the same person (Amissah-Arthur) should be as his running mate or whether a different person should be nominated”, the NDC organizer said.

The 2012 elections is not a contest between two economists: Amissah Arthur

The new vice president of Ghana has said that the 2012 elections would not be a contest between him and the NPP's Mamudu Bawumia.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, the immediate past governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) said the elections will “be a contest of ideas” and he finds himself, as an economist, in a better position to “explain the policy choices that are available to Ghanaians, so they can make an informed choice.”

 Mr. Amissah-Arthur rubbished claims that the ruling National democratic Congress (NDC) is going to lose the elections because “he is not a political persona.” saying that he has been in politics for a long time and even contributed to the writing of the NDC manifesto in 1992 and also in the campaign of NDC in 1992 and 1996.

He called on his critics to separate technocracy from politics.

He said: “Parliament can ask all the questions and I’ll provide all the answers. I’ll tell them what my life has been and my experiences. From a modest background I have been able to succeed and that is the lesson I want the Ghanaian youth to learn.”
