According to him, Ghanaians had hope in the late President John Evans Mills to fully execute the “Better Ghana” agenda, but since his demise, he - President Mahama - will ensure the agenda is completed as Joshua did for the Israelites when Moses passed away.
The President on Friday made a one-day working visit to the Central Region to thank residents for their support and contribution towards the burial rites of the late President Mills.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Cape Coast in the region, President Mahama thanked them for the rousing welcome given him and his entourage saying, “you have really shown me that indeed you have accepted me as your son.”
According to him, the late President worked hard to ensure even development across the country and every district in Ghana has benefited from the developmental projects saying, “Professor Atta Mills gave everybody his fair share of development and so there is no district in this country which has not benefited.”
President Mahama hence pledged to build upon the foundation prepared him by his predecessor “to enable me continue with the Better Ghana agenda.
He also pledged that the Kotokoraba Market in Cape Coast will be completed as scheduled to enable the market women ply their trade.
“I promise that the market will be built. All that we had to do to ensure the start of the project has been done so it will start rigorously and with God on our side, hopefully by the end of the year, we will all commission the Kotokoraba market to honour the late Professor Mills,” he said.
Addressing hundreds of market women in Kasoa, President Mahama said government was overwhelmed by the number of Ghanaians who turned out in to mourn the late President.
He stated that “we had to start our thank you tour from the Central Region because the late President is your kinsman. We were told of what you did here when the President died. We were told of how you mourned him. We are here just to say thank you for your support and contribution. We thank you for abandoning your duties just to mourn him.”
He also expressed his appreciation to all the political parties, the chiefs and people of Kasoa and the Central Region.
