Onika Tanya Maraj (born December 8, 1982 or December 8, 1984), known by her stage name Nicki Minaj ( /mɪˈnɑːʒ/), is a Trinidadian-born American rapper, singer-songwriter, voice actress and television personality. She was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago. When she was five years old, she moved to the New York City borough of Queens. Minaj trained as an actress before she released three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009 and signed to Young Money Entertainment.
Minaj rose to prominence when she released her debut album, Pink Friday, in November 2010, peaking at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and being certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) a month after its release. She became the first female solo artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her seventh single, "Super Bass" has since been certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA, and has sold more than four million copies, becoming one of the best-selling singles in the United States. Minaj released her second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, in April 2012, which topped charts internationally, also spawning the top 10 singles "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm". Since, the album has become one of the best-selling albums of 2012, according to the Nielsen SoundScan, selling 1,000,000 copies worldwide In 2012, Minaj embarked on two worldwide tours, the Pink Friday Tour and the Pink Friday: Reloaded Tour.
Minaj's artistry features fast-paced rapping, alter egos and accents, notably British cockney. Her outlandish and colorful costumes, wigs and clothing have given her recognition as a fashion icon She featured as a voice actress in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, is currently serving as a judge on American Idol and has endorsed Adidas, MAC Cosmetics, and Pepsi. Lady Gaga's Producer DJ White Shadow Slams Nicki Minaj: 'You're Not Talented'

A producer who has worked extensively with Lady Gaga has taken to Twitter to blast Nicki Minaj in a seemingly unprovoked attack, claiming she isn't talented.

DJ White Shadow produced the majority of Lady Gaga's second studio album Born This Way album, including songs 'Americano,' 'Bloody Mary' and 'The Edge of Glory'.

On Tuesday, something appeared to have rattled his cage because he tweeted: "Ok. Nicki Minaj. F**k you. Get a grip. You are lucky, not talented. Stop. Please stop. XO. DJWS."

The tweet was deleted shortly after, but White Shadow addressed his comment again, later writing:

"Oops didn't mean to delete that. But I don't recall what I said, basically it was "come on son" to nicki. Cause you are wack."

Nicki's dedicated fans were clearly furious with the jabs and bombarded the DJ with defensive messages on behalf of the rapper, however, White Shadow was standing by his opinion.

"You can be judgmental. My views are my own. I am by myself. I don't hate. It's not hate, just dislike for poor taste," he replied. It isn't known what caused White Shadow to launch into a rant about the Young Money rapper.

The 'Starships' hitmaker hasn't responded to the comments, no doubt busy with her new three-part reality show, Nicki Minaj: My Truth, in which she addresses her turbulent relationship with American Idol co-judge Mariah Carey.

"I think Mariah met her match this time, and I don't think she was expecting to meet her match," Nicki says on her show.

"I'm super nervous and anxious for the first day on American Idol. I'm still second guessing my decision. I'm probably going to be a hundred times guessing this decision because I'm human. It's a big job", Nicki said whilst cameras followed her around as she prepared for her first day on the talent show last month.

Carly Rae Jepsen, Rita Ora Confirmed For MTV EMA 2012

Carly Rae Jepsen, Rita Ora and Fun have been announced in addition to Taylor Swift and No Doubt to perform at the MTV EMA 2012.

More acts were confirmed to perform at the MTV EMA Awards next month these included ‘Call Me Maybe’ star Carly Rae Jepsen and British singer-songwriter Rita Ora.


The MTV EMA Awards will take place in Frankfurt on November 11 at 9pm and will see Jepsen and Ora perform for the first time at the EMA’s. Rita Ora told Capital FM: ''I’m so excited to be part of the 2012 MTV EMA! And to be nominated is incredible- let’s have some fun this year!''

Also announced to perform is Fun, they will be added to the list of already confirmed acts which include Muse.

Justin Bieber, One Direction, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Nicki Minaj have multiple nominations in the upcoming awards however it is Rihanna and Taylor Swift who have been dominating the nominations this year.

With Rihanna scooping a total of six nominations including Best Pop Act, Best Video for her hit ‘We Found Love’ and Best Female where she fights it out with fellow friend Katy Perry and country-pop princess Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift is also nominated for Best Live and Best World Stage. We will see the award for Biggest Fans either awarded to One Direction, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna or Lady Gaga.

Supermodel Heidi Klum will host the event.

Pepsi & Coke Fight Over Nicki Minaj

While auditions for the new season of American Idol are not too far away, there is some major drama happening behind the curtain to cast Nicki Minaj as a new judge.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, their sources with close ties to Fox show have revealed that Pepsi and Coke are fighting over the 29-year-old music superstar.

The singer, rapper and fashion extraordinaire has become one of the most profiting musicians in the past few years – and American Idol greatly desires the Starships singer to be in one of the judges seats for season 12.
But Minaj is the new face of Pepsi, which causes problems with Idol sponsor Coke and they’re not too thrilled at the possible candidate. (Coke has been a partner since its first season.)
The Fox show ran into a similar problem when their other longtime sponsor Ford received word that season 11 judge Jennifer Lopez had signed a commercial deal with Fiat.
Sources also tell the magazine that if Fox gets their way, Idol’s judging panel will be formed by Minaj, a country star (their number one choice is Keith Urban), a Latin artist (heartthrob Enrique Iglesias is their leading contender) and their only locked-in judge so far, Mariah Carey.
