The New Patriotic Party just re-nominated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as it's running mate for the 2012 elections slated to take place this December.
Re-nominated running mate of the New Patriotic Party says his selection
will have little meaning if the country is not transformed.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was addressing a section of journalists at his
private residence in Kanda shortly after the party’s National Executive
Council unanimously accepted him to be the running mate of the flagbearer Nana
Akufo-Addo.
The NEC meeting was short but not without drama at least at the
precincts of the party Headquarters where hundreds of party supporters
converged.
“No change! No change! Bawumia all the way,” the supporters bellowed in
unison and when news trickled in from sources within the meeting that
Bawumia had been re-nominated, the supporters popped champagne in wild
celebration.
On their motorbikes, the supporters went to the private
residence of Dr Bawumia who was waiting patiently for his re-nomination
to be made public.
Standing by his wife Samira Bawumia, the running mate was full of
praise for the flag-bearer Nana Addo and the National Executive Council
for reposing confidence in him and also wished the flag-bearer a Happy
68th Birthday.
“I also thank very much our National Executive Council and the National
Council for overwhelmingly and unanimously endorsing my nomination. I
owe them so much gratitude.
"I know that this is a sacred responsibility that has been entrusted
upon me and I accept the challenge in all humility and hope to be able
to rise up to that challenge," he said.
Whilst acknowledging the minority dissent to his nomination, Bawumia
stated that the nomination is not about him but about the future of the
country.
“This nomination is not about me. It is about the future of this country. It is about the youth of this country. It is about how we are going to transform this country. So my nomination will be meaningless unless it is linked to the total economic transformation of Ghana.”
“…We need to improve the welfare of people who have been left behind; saving our National Health Insurance Scheme; bringing free education. These are the issues we are going to fight for on behalf of the people of Ghana and I stand here ready to partner Nana Akufo-Addo to deliver on his vision for Ghana and the NPP’s vision for Ghana. It is going to be jobs for our youth,” he stated.
