Governance and Legal Policy Officer of the Centre for Democratic
Development Kojo Asante says he is disappointed with the NDC for what he
terms hasty preparations in finding President John Mills’ successor.
Barely two days after the death of President John Mills, the National
Executive Committee of the NDC met on Thursday and confirmed President
John D.
Mahama as the 2012 flag-bearer of the ruling National.
But Kojo Asante told Citi News, it is
too early to decide who leads the NDC in the December elections,
especially when President John Mahama has declared one week mourning.
He said, “I still think we should still show respect and grieve for this
week.
I am actually surprised that the party has already started its own
internal processes to deal with the flag-bearership because they really
need to use this week to get the rank and file to pay their respect.”
He also noted that the party could have set up their regional and
constituency offices to allow people to go there and pay their respect
nationwide adding that “I am a bit disappointed that they’ve gone
straight into these discussions and you can feel that it’s going to
trigger all kinds of issues.”-citifmonline
