Franklin Cudjoe: Why are women groups not supporting Konadu?

The Executive Director of think tank Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed surprise that none of the Gender Advocacy groups have thrown their support behind Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings’s bid for the presidency despite their work for women advancement.

According to him, although Mrs. Rawlings has had her flaws in politics, her leadership qualities far exceed many of the male flagbearers contesting the general elections, and it was surprising that the women’s groups are not championing her cause.

Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Cudjoe said if Mrs. Konadu Rawlings accepts to contest, she would become the first female presidential candidate adding that it will change the face of the nation’s politics.

He however believes it will be difficult for her to win the upcoming elections on the ticket of NDP because of the issues which saw her exit from the NDC.

Franklin Cudjoe in an earlier interview with Adom News stated that he rates the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings highly as a potential presidential, describing her as better than some of the men contesting the presidential seat.

But some of the groups like Ark Foundation and Society for Women and Aid in Africa (AWLA) say it is not fair on the part of Franklin Cudjoe of Imani Ghana to draw such a conclusion.

According to them, the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, is yet to officially accept the flagbearership slot of the National Democratic Party, so there is no need to support her now.
