He has also vowed to sue the EC to demand the return of monies paid as nomination fee for the conduct of the abortive by-elections in Kwabre West and Wulensi.
Prophet Nkansah made the damning allegation on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Tuesday October 23, 2012, a day after messrs Asomani and Kissi were arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a Ghc1,600 bribe from the NVP standard bearer to facilitate the approval of his nomination papers to allow him contest the upcoming poll.
According to Prophet Nkansah, Kissi demanded Ghc10,000 to “share with the Chairman and other big men”, at the premises of the EC and rejected an initial Ghc1,000 he (Nkansah) offered, claiming the NVP leader was “not serious.”
Prophet Nkansah alleged that confirmation of the collusion was provided by the three officials themselves when, even though the Chairman was ready to sign NVP’s papers, he readily acquiesced –without checking himself – when the two officials claimed the forms had not been properly filled and therefore rejected them.
What makes it worse, he said, was that other parties like the CPP and PNC also had mistakes but they were allowed to correct them at the premises of the E.C.
The NVP leader was emphatic that Asante Kissi demanded a large sum of money to “go and see Chairman and the others in order to qualify you,” therefore
Dr Afari Gyan
Dr Afari Gyan could not be trusted to conduct free and fair elections especially at such a crucial time in Ghana’s history.
“Everything shows that Dr Afari Gyan knows about this, because when I gave him (Kissi) Ghc,1000 at the Electoral Commission he brought it back to me and said he couldn’t send this kind of money to Chairman and the other big men. I also know that Electoral Commission has only one Chairman, and when I sent the form to Kwadwo Afari Gyan he was ready to sign but stopped when these two men said he should not sign. So yes, he knows about it.”
Madam Akua Donkor, who first blew the alarm on the alleged illegal activities of Mr Asomani after the Ghana Freedom Party’s papers were also rejected, said the latest development was a vindication of her claims of underhand dealing.
Also speaking on Adom FM’s Dwso nsem morning show, Mad Donkor said ‘I know him (Asomani) in Kumasi, he cheated me in 2008 when he took money from (the late Emmanuel) Owusu Ansah, Kwabre West MP and stole the election for him.’
Contributing as well, MP for Asokwa Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who was recently embroiled in a secret tape saga involving officers of the Electoral Commission, insisted Asomani should not be made a scapegoat because the problem was larger than that.
Citing the example of Mr Amadu Sule, Director IT who shortly after training NDC faithful at Shai Hills on the intricacies of the biometric registration system was appointed Deputy Chairman of the EC, Kofi Jumah asked ‘what bribe is bigger than that?’
