The Turkish National team host Romania in their third World Cup 2014 Group stage qualification match.
The match will be played in the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium, a full capacity crowd is expected.
Abdullah Avci is likely to have his side lined up in a 4-2-3-1 set up. The main changes from the last game against Estonia being Volkan Demirel retaking his position in goal and Gökhan Gönül making a return at right-back.
The defense is likely to be comprised of Semih Kaya and Ömer Toprak as center backs, 21-year-old Semih and 23-year-old Toprak may be young however, they are two of the most promising defenders in Turkish football and have a combination of Champions League, Super League and International experience already behind them.
Gökhan Gönül will start at right-back, the Fenerbahçe fullback has been brilliant for the Yellow Canaries and is coming off the back of being the architect behind an emphatic 3-0 win over Beşiktaş in the Istanbul derby,
Hasan Ali Kaldirim of Hakan Balta are the choices at left-back, Avci has tended to go for Hasan Ali. However, with Gönül in the team he may be tempted to opt for the more defensive option in Balta or face a potential imbalance with both fullbacks bombing forward.
Balta would likely shift to a central defensive position while Gönül makes marauding forward runs to offer defensive cover.
The teams captain Emre Belözoğlu is set to start alongside either Nuri Şahin or Mehmet Topal in central midfield. Avci faces a tough choice, Şahin is along with Arda one of the most talented players in this team.
The Liverpool midfielder at his best is rated as one of the best midfielders in Europe, wonderful first touch, adept at defensive as well as attacking roles in midfield, a pass master and with creativity and intelligence it would be a surprise for Avci not to make use of Şahin. The 24-year-old midfielder has just started regaining match fitness and has impressed for Liverpool lately.
Arda Turan has been playing in a free attacking role under Avci so far, however, another possibility could be Arda playing on right with Şahin being deployed in a more advanced attacking midfield role like he has been with Liverpool. This would allow Mehmet Topal a more defensively minded midfielder to star next to Emre.
Burak Yilmaz is expected to start upfront with Hamit Altintop on the right wing and Sercan Sararer will start on the left.
Turkey are currently sitting in joint third position with three points, the national team are still a work in progress however, Avci will be pleased with the signs.
The Turkish side game the Netherlands a tough game in the opening Group D game, controlling over 50 per-cent possession, hitting the cross bar twice and creating clear goal scoring opportunities.
Turkey lost the opening game but dealt comfortably with Estonia, defeating them 3-0 in the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium.
Romania got an important away win against Estonia and beat Andorra 4-0 however, there biggest test of the group so far will be their match against Turkey on Friday.
The Turkish sides key players have hit form at the right time, Altintop and Şahin are finally near full match fitness after struggling with injury and lack of playing time for the entirety of last season. Arda is a much improved player in every aspect of his game since making his move to Atletico Madrid, Emre has also started making the starting lineup for Atleti and has two assists in his last two games.
Turkey do have two young center-backs and they started both matches so far a little shaky but grew with confidence as the match wore on. Turkey will have be careful not to concede an early goal like they did against the Netherlands and nearly against Estonia.
The home advantage will play into Turkey's hands, the defense could do with the support their fans will give them and a confident midfield with the kind of quality available is likely to dominate possession and create Romania problems especially if they decide to play a more defensive game.
