President John Mahama has assured Ghana Prisons Service that his government will equip the Service to acceptable standards as has been done within the Ghana Armed Forces and the Fire Service.
He stated that the Prisons Service’s role of correcting and reforming inmates cannot be over-emphasized and must be treated with the seriousness it deserves.
“We are committed this time to ensuring that the appropriate equipments and logistics are provided to our men in arms so that their discharge their duties properly.”
According to him, government a done a lot of work with the Air Force and the Navy and “over the next couple of years we are going to look at the Armed Forces too in terms of their requirements.”
He added that “the Fire Service has a lot of fire tenders now, the Police have a lot of vehicles, we’ve gotten them communication equipments, we’ve gotten them bullet proof jackets, we’ve gotten them new motor cycles” therefore attention will be turned to the Prisons Service due to the important role they play in the society.
