Lady Gaga Faces Muslim Protests In Jakarta

While she’s no stranger to controversy, Lady Gaga is getting into uncharted territory recently, with religious groups protesting at her concert venues. When she kicked off her Born This Way Ball tour in Seoul, South Korea, it was Christians from the Alliance For Sound Culture and Sexuality that came out against the singer. Now, as she prepares to head to Jakarta, Indonesia, it’s the Islamic Defenders’ Front that is threatening to cause trouble.

The group is a conservative Muslim organization with a strict stance on vice and liberalism whose protests have been known to turn violent. Last week, the front chairman for the group, Rizieq Shihab, told the Jakarta Globe that there would be trouble if Lady Gaga followed through on the concert date:
.
“If you want chaos in Jakarta, just continue to hold the concert.”
.
Currently, the concert is still scheduled for June 3rd at the Bung Karno soccer stadium. Ticket prices for the upcoming concert range from 750,000 rupiah to 2.25 million rupiah ($80 to $240 USD). While this means many Indonesians won’t be able to attend, there’s sure to be plenty of Little Monsters to fill the seats.
