Wayne Rooney out for 4 weeks after hideous slashed thigh injury

Wayne Rooney is facing four weeks out after being carried off in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Fulham with a slashed thigh, as pictures revealed the full extent of the hideous injury.

The United forward had only come on in the 68th minute after the home side conceded a sloppy goal to allow Fulham within sight of a draw.

But Rooney’s first home appearance of the season ended nastily as he had to be taken straight to hospital when Hugo Rodallega accidentally landed on his leg after failing to connect with a shot in the final moments of the match.
Pictures that emerged immediately after the game showed just how bad the injury was - cutting deeply into the muscle tissue of his leg.

‘It's a very bad gash, he's been whisked off to hospital and I think he'll be out for four weeks,’ confirmed Ferguson.
The lay-off for Rooney means Ferguson will have no choice but to continue starting new signing Robin van Persie.

But the Scot is likely to have few qualms about that as the Dutchman got off to the perfect start on his home debut with a wonderful goal to equalise after Damien Duff had put Fulham ahead early on.

United stormed to a 3-1 lead in the first half despite going behind, thanks to goals from Van Persie, Shinji Kagawa and Rafael, and it looked as though they would come out in the second half to increase that lead further.
But a mix-up between David de Gea and Nemanja Vidic saw the Serbian put the ball into his own net and allowed Fulham the chance to get back in it.

And with the Cottagers pushing for a winner, Rodallega attempted to strike for goal - only to miss the ball and land on Rooney.

The gash looks to be six inches long and will require multiple stitches at hospital when the club's medical team will give a more accurate prognosis of how long he will be sidelined.
