Deadliest Strikers In Serie A

Our Guest writer from FORZAITALIANFOOTBALL Drew Farmer,  shares his thought on who is the deadliest striker in Serie A and  has file this report...
Serie A has long been a league with some of the best defences in the world. As a matter of fact, most football fans that don’t follow the league will always comment on the defensive mentality in Italian football. But what many football fans don’t realize is the fantastic strikers these Italian defences have created, and the many strikers the same defences have made look pedestrian.
Though last season’s golden boot winner is now at PSG, Serie A is still packed with a plethora of excellent strikers. With the 2012-13 season only two weeks old, here are arguably the league’s five best strikers on display every weekend.

Club: Fiorentina

Stevan Jovetic burst on to the scene in the 2009 Champions League scoring important goals for La Viola. Though his career was sidetracked a year later with a knee injury. At only 22-years old, Jovey, Jovetic has solidified himself as one the the premier strikers in Serie A.
Jovetic is already the club’s captain, and he has proven his importance already this season by tallying all of Fiorentina’s goals. Though the wastefulness he showed against Napoli must be prevented for the club to fulfill pre-season expectations.
With a plethora of new players around him and the new attacking philosophy of coach Vincenzo Montella, it will be up to Jovetic to guide the team back toward the top-half of the table. Though he needs more goal scoring help from those around him. Another long-term injury and La Viola could besunk this season without their star man.
Club: Lazio
Despite being at the age most players are winding down their careers, 34, Miroslav Klose continues to show the world he has a lot left in the tank. Signed in 2011 on a free-transfer from Bayern Munich, many believed the German would only play a bit part in the capital club’s season. However, that was not the case as much of Lazio’s early season success was built on the goal scoring prowess of the German international.
Klose finished 2011-12 with 16 goals in 35 appearances for the Biancocelesti, though as he fell victim to injury late in the season, Lazio’s hopes of Champions League football were dashed.
This season the Lazio hitman has already tallied two goals from two games, and if anyone questions Klose’s place amongst the elite strikers on the peninsula, then look no further than his fantastic brace against Palermo in week two.

Club: Inter

Cassano moved from the red side of the San Siro to the blue just a few weeks ago sparking criticism from all over Italy. Mostly from the supporting parts of the country.
Even though the Italian has had a love-hate relationship with fans throughout his career he has continued to thrive. Now fully fit, or fully Cassano fit, he lines up in an extremely exciting Inter Milan attack. Able to play as a second striker or in the hole, Cassano is a handful for defences in the league. Equally adept at finishing or creating chances, Cassano still has a lot to prove at both club and country level.
His absence last season truly hurt Milan as they tried unsuccessfully to repeat as champions, and his move to rivals Inter has already made Milan look even weaker up front after already selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic; Giampaolo Pazzini or not.
The Italian is already off to a good start thus far with a goal and an assist to his name.

Club: Inter

Along with Antonio Cassano and Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito makes up one of the most feared attacks in Serie A. Considered as one of Inter’s old guard, and at 33, Milito may not have many years left in his legs. Despite this, he continues to excel at the highest level with the club he helped lead to the treble just three seasons ago. Though that seems a lifetime away for many Inter supporters.
After a poor year in 2010-11, thanks to injury and Rafa Benitez, Milito has persevered and has nearly returned to the player he was in his debut season. Last year the striker finished the league season with 24 goals, second only to golden boot winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Argentine is still an integral part of the Nerazzurri and his ability to find the back of the net is why some have tipped Inter to win the Scudetto.

Club: Napoli

When Napoli signed Edinson Cavani from Palermo for 17m euros, they got one of the biggest steals in all of football. Despite Falcao’s recent three goal performance in the UEFA Super Cup, Cavani is still considered by many to be the best in the world.
He already has Napoli flying high in the league, though he has only scored once. His ability to command the defence’s attention opens up the attacking third for his teammates, which Napoli take full advantage of.
His ability to play well in big games has also seen the Uruguayan’s stock soar. Unfortunately, this season he will play in the Europa League, which most causal fans won’t see. Those same fans won’t get to see what Serie A followers already know. That Cavani is the best in the world and his individual ability is better than that of any other striker that is wrongly rated higher than him. Though he doesn’t carry the name of Fernando Torres, Hulk or even Karim Benzema, Cavani netted more league goals than in 2011-12.
With Torres moving to Chelsea for 50m pounds and Hulk going to Zenit St. Petersburg for 32m pounds recently, Cavani could go for far more than those two. That is if Napoli decide to cash in on their new “Maradona.”
