Globacom launches maiden soccer academy


Telecommunication giants Globacom have launched its maiden football academy reality show dubbed ‘Dream Team’.

The academy in conjunction with English Premier League giants Manchester United will be an avenue to unearth young football talents in West Africa.

Thirty three boys between the ages of 14-17 years will be scouted from Ghana, Nigeria and the Republic of Benin for Glo’s maiden soccer academy haven sent a text message on the Glo network to qualify.

These talents will be housed and mentored in a World class facility which will be based in Lagos, Nigeria.

“This initiative is part of our contribution to help develop football on the African continent,” Globacom Director Tunde Kaitell said at the academy’s press launch.

“Glo’s association with football is well known with our sponsoring of the CAF Awards, the Ghana Premier League, the Black Stars just to mention a few.

“We at Glo want to provide a unique opportunity for the numerous budding talents on the African continent.”

There will be five weeks of screening across the three countries after which the final contestants will be determined to compete for the ultimate.

The winner of the new soccer reality show will be taking home a staggering Ghc 60,000 (approximately $30, 612) and an opportunity to train in the renowned Manchester United Soccer School.

The other participants will also be taking home Ghc 10,000 (approximately $5, 102) plus a G-Bam scholarship worth Ghc 9,300 (approximately $4,744).
