Era of secret tapes: Kofi Jumah tape pops up!

Adomonline.com is in exclusive possession of a secretly recorded tape of NPP stalwart and MP for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, allegedly revealing how he attempted to subvert the third round of the 2008 elections to favour the then ruling NPP.

The tape was provided by the Ashanti Region Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Joseph Yamin in fulfillment of a pledge on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday October 10, 2012 to apprise Ghanaians of what he says were the diabolical plans of the NPP for the 2008 elections and what may be in store for this year’s election.

Mr Jumah has since confirmed in an interview with Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem that the voice is his, and he stands by every word in the tape. He insists however that there was nothing subversive about his actions.

Mr Jumah appears to be speaking to his party faithful at the said meeting and urging them to sit up and match the NDC boot for boot to prevent the rigging of the 2012 elections.

In the 16 minutes 38 second tape, the speaker reveals how he managed to elude police scrutiny to smuggle in 30,000 ballot papers and a number of guns into the Tain constituency in the heat of the third round of the 2008 presidential elections which eventually elected the late Prof John Atta Mills as President.

“Mills is dangerous!” a charged Kofi Jumah declared, adding that the Director in charge of IT at the Electoral Commission is a sympathizer of the NDC who has been manipulating figures, so there’s no way the NPP can win the election freely and fairly.

Confirming the contents of the tape the Asokwa MP said "It is true, I stand by it. It’s not a secret tape; I have one and I’ve listened to it. Yamin is just trying to make a storm in a teacup."

The “2 or 3 guns” belonged to the Ghana Police and have since been returned, he insisted, while further checks on the ballot papers revealed they were old, and in any event the NPP refused to partake in the election so the issue of stuffing the ballot box never arose, he added.

Mr Jumah refused to be drawn on the implications of his actions, while insisting he could not trust the EC to conduct free and fair elections.
