Alhaji Aliu Mahama dies at age 66

News coming in has it that former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has passed on this morning at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama served under the erstwhile Kufuor administration from 2001 to January 7 2009.

He died at the age of 66.

The former Vice President has been ill for some time now and has been receiving treatment at the nation’s premiere hospital.

Not long ago rumours were rife that the former Vice President had passed on, a report which was debunked by his family and the hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party.

BRIEF HISTORY
Alhaji Aliu Mahama (born 3 March 1946) was Vice-President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009. He sought the New Patriotic Party's nomination for the 2008 presidential election, but at the party's convention in December 2007 he received only 6.38% of delegates' votes (146 votes). After this unexpectedly poor result he announced that he would leave politics.

ILLINESS
He was taken to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was taken to the intensive care unit. He was on life support for nearly two weeks. He finally gave up. He was a strong man since there were many speculations that he was going to die soon, he however proved most people wrong by staying alive for a few more days
