Alhaji Aliu Mahama to be given a state burial tomorrow

Chief of Staff, Henry Martey Newman has indicated that former Vice President Aliu Mahama will be given a state burial tomorrow.

Speaking to media men, he said the former Vice President who passed away on Friday will be laid in state tomorrow and buried at the Muslim section of the Osu Cemetary.


 The former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama will be buried at the Asomdwe Memorial Park.

The decision was arrived at after discussions between the government and the family of the former President.

Special aide to the late former President, Samuel Kojo Frimpong told Citi News all is set for the burial ceremony on Sunday.

The former Vice President passed away at 9:45am on Friday, November 16, 2012 after days of illness.

Chief of Staff, Henry Martey Newman in an earlier interview revealed that, “we are providing two or three aircraft to bring the family from Tamale to join in the funeral celebrations”.

Information available to Citi News however indicates, Zongo Chief in Dagbon and family head of the former Vice President in Yendi, Alhaji Abubakar Zango-Naa, insists Aliu Mahama's body should not be buried in Accra.

According to him, the remains of Aliu Mahama should be returned to Yendi.
