Nana Addo: Mahama has misinterpretated the constitution

The Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has described H.E.. John Dramani Mahama as being ignorant of the constitution.

The President was found to have said that the constitution of Ghana gives every candidate two automatic terms in power.

President John Mahama in his closing remarks in Wednesday’s second Institute of Economic Affairs Presidential Debate stated: “The NDC government has done a lot in four years. Our constitution gives presidents two terms. Take it that I am the spare driver or caretaker. Prof. Mills, of blessed memory, started the process and I am finishing his unexpired term. I believe the NDC government deserves a second term to be able to build on the foundation that it has laid in these four years.”
Nana Addo pointed out that the constitution of Ghana said that it was the people that could give a candidate a second term in power and not the constitution. He told them media that the President had erred when he said that. He couldn't point this out in the IEA Presidential Debate since he had exhausted all his rebuttals.

He added if the people are satisfied with the performance of a sitting president they retain him in office to serve a second term, adding the constitution does not give an inalienable right of a second term to any president.
