Pro-NDC groups: Kessben is treated like a terrorist

Two pro-NDC groups say they unhappy about National Security’s handling of Kumasi-based businessman, Kwabena Kesse, arrested for alleged money laundering.

Members of Friends of Atta Mills and Professor Mills Movement suggest the Chief Executive of Kessben Group, in their estimation, is being treated like a terrorist.
Spokesperson for the two groups, Gabriel Agah told Nhyira News the development has serious implication on local businesses because it dampens the spirit of indigenous investors.

An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday refused bail for Mr. Kesse, popularly known as Kessben, when he first appeared before it.
He denies two charges of money laundering and forgery of documents leveled against him following his arrest late last month.
The court argued the suspect is likely to interfere with police investigations if he was granted bail.

Ahead of the next court hearing, the NDC groups have jumped to the defence of the business mogul, saying his detention has the potential to kill local entrepreneurship.
Friends of Atta Mills and Professor Mills Movement with about 5,000 members across the country are noted for campaigning feverishly for the National Democratic Congress ahead of the 2008 elections.

Acting Secretary, Gabriel Agah tells Nhyira News the groups are not satisfied with conduct of National Security operatives because “they handled the man (Mr. Kwabena Kesse) as a terrorist”.

“The way and manner they handled him when he arrived from America I think it was very bad because we learnt that he was not even allowed for his lawyers to talk to him and people did not know his whereabouts. In the first place, they handled him as somebody who is carrying explosives”. Mr. Agah revealed.
Though the group believes Mr Kesse is not above the laws of the land, he should have been treated with some respite.

“I think as a renowned businessman as we know who has assets in this country, they were very harsh on him and that’s why we criticize them”.
In another development, the groups in a release said the manner in which Mr Kesse was arrested has the tendency to kill local businesses.
“We believe this in a way has damped the spirit of the Ghanaian business men and women because it looks like this is not the first time a business man or his company’s name has been put into disrepute. We believe this is killing the spirit of Ghanaian entrepreneur”. The statement noted.

The two groups say they are spiritually behind Mr. Kesse for his release.
Until then they want Ghanaians to desist from dragging the name of a personality they describe as successful and distinguished businessman into politics.
