I Rejected NDC Running Mate Slot In 1999

Flagbearer of National Democratic Party (NDP) and former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has rubbished suggestions that she harboured long term ambition to become president hence her incessant attacks on the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Nana Konadu said she had never thought of becoming a president until now, revealing that she declined an opportunity to partner the late President John Evans Atta Mills in the run up to the 2000 elections.

At the NDC’s delegates’ congress held over the weekend at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the former President, Jerry John Rawlings stated that it was never her wife’s ambition to contest for the presidency and that it was because the NDC, a party he founded, had departed from the real ideology and the basic foundation of justice, accountability and integrity upon which the party was formed.

But some leading member of the ruling party insist the former president and his wife’s criticism of the ruling NDC was not borne out of genuine desire for good leadership but that they had intentions of subverting the party for their personal aggrandizement.

The former first lady however insists that the assertion was a figment of the NDC’s own imagination, contending that if it was her intention to become president under the NDC, she would have done so long ago.

According to her, it was not until 2009 when things started going wayward when this country was thrown into despondency, poor leadership and corruption in the highest order that she decided to enter the scene and to try and collect the wrong doings in the society.

She revealed in an interview with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye of Kessben 93.3FM that in 1999, some top ranking officials of the NDC, who are now playing active role in the government under John Mahama came and pleaded with her to partner late Prof. Mills to contest for the 2000 elections but she declined, explained that she wanted to be by her husband and the family deal with post election stresses.

“I wanted to be by my husband and help him and the family go through the psychological aspect of being out of government; my intentions had never been about becoming a president as being speculated,” she explained.

Even though the former first lady declined to mention names of the two supposed leading members of the NDC who approached her, Mrs. Rawlings said those two know themselves and cannot in anyway deny it.

The NDP flagbearer also made mockery of the ruling NDC’s claims of chalking unprecedented success under its four year reign, stressing that the government can continue to tickle itself and laugh but Ghanaian voters would be the ultimate decider.

“Salt does not praise itself, if they say their performance is unprecedented, let them show us, Ghanaians will judge them,” she noted.

The former first lady also bemoaned what she termed as total insolence within the NDC, arguing that the ruling party lacks discipline and respect for the elderly.

Rawlings & Akufo-Addo’s Meeting Is Conspiracy

To Ditch NDC – Tony Aidoo

… Kofi Adams & Gabby Otchere-Darko Set The Ball Rolling!

Outspoken man-of-conviction, Dr. Anthony Aidoo, has for the first time, taken off his gloves in the matter concerning the disgraceful manner in which former President and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, is allowing his wife to make him misconduct himself, reducing him to nothingness.

Dr. Tony Aidoo is not hiding the fact that he has decided to wear his heart on his sleeves, after obviously restraining himself from commenting on the unacceptable manner in which JJ Rawlings has become a sissy; and is working hand-in-glove with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) aiming at destroying the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking in a short outburst on Radio Gold’s Alhaji & Alhaji programme last Saturday, 13 October 2012, Dr. Tony Aidoo put it out emphatically that, the meeting between Rawlings and Akufo-Addo was nothing short of a grand conspiracy to do the bidding of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings; whose main agenda, is to destroy the NDC.

According to the NDC firebrand, he was shocked at the way certain persons are trying hard to put Rawlings and Akufo-Addo on a high pedestal for meeting to supposedly discuss matters of national interest.

“That meeting between Rawlings and Akufo-Addo is nothing but a grand conspiracy to ditch the NDC”, Dr. Tony Aidoo said in an angry tone.

According to the die-hard Dr. Aidoo, who is certainly one of standing bastions as regards the NDC’s Social Democracy philosophy, it is about time that members of the NDC joined hands in making sure that Rawlings is told the truth in the face that the party can no longer contend with his wayward ways.
According to Tony Aidoo, many a time, he has stood alone when it comes to fighting to safeguard the principles for which the party stands, and has oft times ended up, a victim of his stance.
In the words of Tony Aidoo, “this time, I am not going to fight this battle alone; we must all join hands to fight”.
Tony Aidoo’s outburst is a clear manifestation of how many hard-core NDC members are becoming sick and tired, and can no longer stomach the baloney that is going on.
Most certainly, the meeting between Rawlings and Akufo-Addo is the product of the conspiratorial work started by Kofi Adams and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
It would be recalled that after Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was gargantuanly disgraced in Sunyani, when she attempted to become the flagbearer of the NDC, Mr. Kofi Adams and Gabby were caught on tape, conspiring to plot the destruction and defeat of the NDC.
In that conversation, inter alia, Kofi Adams proposed that he and Gabby “meet outside the country” to finalise their plans to ensure that the “NDC does not get a second term”
Indeed, Kofi Adams, whose treachery is beyond that of, Judas Iscariot and Brutus put together, is currently on suspension as Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, because of that conversation with Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
It is not beyond logical extrapolation to conclude that, Mr. Rawlings and his wife were part of Kofi Adams and Gabby’s conspiracy that is why even though Kofi was caught red-handed, Rawlings still referred to him as a man of “integrity”.
If the likes of Kofi Adams and Akufo-Addo have become the yardstick with which Rawlings is now measuring integrity, it comes as no surprise that lots of FONKAR and NDP members are re-joining the NDC because, true integrity, is the legacy that President Atta Mills had left for the NDC.

Rawlings, Nana Konadu Congratulate Muslims

Nana and I congratulate the Muslim community for concluding the month-long fasting period, which has culminated in the celebration of Eid ul Fitr.

Rawlings Has Always Supported Mahama – Kofi Adams

The spokesperson for former President Jerry Rawlings, Kofi Adams, has revealed that his boss has always supported the choice of John Dramani Mahama as running mate to late President John Mills.

This is contrary to speculations in the public domain that the former president preferred Betty Mould Iddrisu to John Mahama in the lead up to the decision being made.

Speaking on Citi Fm’s news and current affairs program, Inside Politics, Mr. Adams stated that the claims about lack of support for the Mahama candidacy are unfounded.

He said, “there are persons who have put out there that he [Rawlings] wasn't supportive of our current president John Dramani Mahama being nominated as running mate… that is false.

“He even insisted when he was having discussions with the Professor before the congress, that look, when you get elected as flagbearer, he was of the opinion that the consultative process should be so short and immediate that if possible his Excellency John Dramani Mahama be announced at the congress grounds immediately as the running mate."

He added: “The flagbearer then who was also the candidate aspiring to be flagbearer said it wasn’t going to be possible, then he said even if that would not be possible to be done on the congress grounds then it must be done early and he kept asking that name John, name John, name John because if you don’t other considerations would come in.”

Who is going to be the flagbearer of NDP?

Finally, the NDP has been given a provisional certificate by Ghana's Electoral Commission. It is almost about four months to elections and the question most Ghanaians ask is "Who is going to be the flagbearer of this newly formed party, the National Democratic Party, NDP.

Some people have been speculating that the Rawlingses are behind the formation of this party. As it stands now, the names that people think would be the flag bearer of the party is Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. The interim chairman of the party, Dr. Josiah Aryee has categorically made assertions to the fact that they have the support of the former first lady, Nana Konadu and have made commentaries to the effect that it would is likely that Nana Konadu would be the flag bearer of this new party. Even before the NDP was formed, several campaign photos of hers that showed her standing as an independent candidate were found.

Let's take a look and the biography of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. If she says yes to this proposal, she would be first female to have ever stood for the position of a flag bearer and if she wins she would be the first female president of the Republic of Ghana

A  HISTORY ABOUT NANA KONADU AGYEMANG RAWLINGS
Nana Konadu, was born on the November 17, 1948 to the late J.O.T. Agyeman and his wife. She schooled at Achimota School, where she met her future husband Jerry John Rawlings. She continued at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where she read Art, specializing in Textiles. She was a student leader and an executive of her Hall of residence, Africa Hall
Nana Konadu got married to her sweetheart, Jerry John Rawlings an Airforce Officer, in 1977. She gave birth to her first child Ezenator Rawlings in 1978. Two other daughters and a son followed later; Yaa Asantewaa, Amina and Kimathi. She also has some grandchildren.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings came into the political limelight when her husband became Head of State briefly in 1979 and then from 1981 to 2001. She became the president of the 31st December Women's Movement from 1982 to date. She was elected 1st Vice Chairperson of her party in 2009 during the second term of her National Democratic Congress (NDC) party's tenure in office under the current President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills. She challenged the seating President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills for the party's flagbearership position at the party's congress which took place at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region from 8–10 July 2011 and lost to him.

LIFE ACHIEVEMENT/WORK
In a statement released by the Embassy of Ghana, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings stated, "My desire is to see the emancipation of women at every level of development to enable them to contribute and benefit from the socio-economic and political progress of the country.... Women's vital role of promoting peace in the family, the country and the world at large must be acknowledged. And to do this, they must be empowered politically to equip them adequately for the challenges of critically identifying and assessing solutions for the betterment of society."

This was the goal of the 31st December Women's Movement of which Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was president. She described it as a "broad based development oriented Non-Governmental Organisation that aspires to achieve these objectives through the effective mobilisation of women." In addition, her movement—two million strong—has set up more than 870 pre-schools in Ghana and has worked actively to stir up interest for the accomplishment of child development and family planning.

Ghana's former First Lady has said that she would continue to work in the women's movement even if her husband were no longer president. Her husband, Jerry Rawlings, led a military coup that seized power in 1981, although he was not established as head of state until the following year. The country successfully reverted to civilian rule in 1992 and held free elections. Calling the first lady "an instrumental part of the revolution in Ghana's economy," the Baltimore Afro-American reported that women were Ghana's largest labor force, and they wanted to be a central part of the country's redevelopment. "Before December 31, 1981, they had no power of influence in law or politics--even the laws that pertained to them." It was a grassroots movement, with women selling their land, clothes, and jewelry to get money.

Mrs. Rawlings was born on November 17, 1948 in Cape Coast, in the central region of Ghana. Both of her parents were professionals, her father serving as a prominent statesman and her mother as an educator. Mrs. Rawlings followed their lead, making education a primary concern in her own life. She attended one of the country's leading high schools, Achimota Secondary School in Accra, in the 1960s. In 1975, just three years after graduating with honors from the University of Science and Technology with a bachelors' degree in graphic design, she earned an interior design diploma from the London College of Arts. She would pursue her education into the next couple decades, acquiring a diploma in advanced personnel management from Ghana's Management Development and Productivity Institute in 1979 and a certificate in development from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in 1991.

When interviewed in Africa Report in January and February 1995, Mrs. Rawlings recalled that in the early 1980s, a few women approached her wanting to form a women's organization but after a few meetings, little happened. She said that after asking the women what they wanted to do as an organization, "It was clear that we had to start with things that would earn money to develop their communities in the social sector. Most of the women wanted things like water." Mrs. Rawlings spent time listening to women who came to her with their problems. Her movement taught Ghanaian women how to generate income and save money for community projects. It encouraged them to become part of the decision making process in their villages, and explained policies of health and education. It offered an adult literacy program to teach them to read and write—the majority of women could not do either. Too early marriages among female children were discouraged and programs were offered on nutrition and immunization. In 1991, through the efforts of Nana Konadu, Ghana was the first nation to approve the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child.
Via the movement, Mrs. Rawlings also played a crucial role in the adoption of an "Intestate Succession Law," which is applicable to the survivors of anyone dying without a will. Traditionally, Ghanaian women had little or no rights of inheritance upon the death of their husbands. The new law provides a standard of inheritance.
Mrs. Rawlings movement has also taught village women to become involved in the electoral process. "We literally just pounded it into them until they realized, hey, we don't want any of these people who are living outside our areas to come and stand in our areas to be elected," she said in Africa Report. "A lot of women are now on committees in their villages and districts, some are chairing the committees.... I can only say we've made a lot of impact, and I can see from the self-esteem and near arrogance of the women, that now we've actually been able to break through this thick wall." In 1992, 19 women were elected in parliamentary elections.

Pointing to the area of finance as one of their problems, Mrs. Rawlings told Africa Report: "Most of the Western embassies said we were just a political group and they didn't take time to listen. It took a lot of time just getting people to understand.... The more women who enter politics, the better the world will be, because we don't think of wars and who is going to manufacture arms and who is going to kill the next person. We want to form linkages, network, and make the world a better place to live in."
During 1995 Ghana's first lady traveled with her husband to cities, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Houston, Detroit, Lincoln, Pennsylvania, and Los Angeles, trying to encourage investment and trade with Ghana. Her husband was the first Ghanaian president to go on a nationwide tour in the United States.
The first lady of Ghana was in the United States for five weeks taking part in a fellows program in philanthropy and non-profit organizations at the Institute for Policy Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she received a certificate after finishing the course of study, which included fundraising techniques, tax policy, and a course on community organization. In 1995 both she and her husband received honorary doctorate degrees at Lincoln University in Lincoln, Pennsylvania.
Noting Mrs. Rawlings's "charm" and "substance," the New York Amsterdam News reported that she was praised by Ghana's permanent representative to the United Nations, George Lamptey, who said, "For the past 12 years she has stood by her husband in the struggle to restore Ghana. She has led a group of active women to help empower Ghanaian women, freeing them from being hewers of wood and drawers of water to be[ing] actors in the political arena."
Ghana's first lady is a member of the Ashanti tribe. She and her husband have four children, three girls and a boy. When not busy with her family or work, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings enjoys swimming, reading, dancing, camping, and collecting dolls from around the world. She also devotes time and money to such charitable causes as the National Radiopathy Project, Friends of the National Zoo, and the Ghana Girl Guides Association to name a few.

WOULD SHE ACCEPT THE OFFER?
The early commentary shows you that the former first lady has a lot of expertise, education and experience when it comes to public but wherever she would accept the letter or not; it lies in her power to choice

Rawlingses Not Part Of NDP - Josiah Aryeh Declares

The chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Mr. Josiah Aryeh, has stated categorically that the Rawlingses are "not in any way a part of the party."

"Have you seen any of the Rawlingses around? We are the leadership of the NDP. Whoever wants to join now is free to come on board."

Mr. Aryeh said this at the Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday after picking the provisional certificate which certifies the existence of the party.

Moves by the NDP to register with the EC began sometime before the passing of President Mills and observers debated whether that event might have any effect on the party’s formation.

The party was largely seen to have the blessings of the Rawlingses as aides to the couple had earlier hinted that they might form a party based on the principles underlying the June 4 and December 31 revolutions.

At the same time, when questioned directly on whether ex-President Jerry John Rawlings would join the NDP, his aide said: “When you form a community you do not leave the community and abandon your cause simply because a few people are misbehaving. We shall stay and fight it until the right thing is done.”

At another point, Mr. Aryeh had indicated that former President Rawlings enjoys keeping people in suspense about his real intentions.
So the verdict it still out on which relationship the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will have with his people and the NDP, which is largely constituted by his faithful.

The NDP though cannot embark on a full campaign until they are given the final certificate in 30 days.

Presenting the certificate, the deputy chairman in charge of finance, Mr. Ahmed Sulley, asked the party to ensure that their activities are consistent with the legal framework of the Political Party Act, adding that they should make sure there are functional offices in at least two-thirds of constituencies in each region.

In an interview, Dr. Aryeh disclosed that the members of the party would meet and decide on their launch, press statements and party congresses, both at the national and constituency level.

In response to a question on how to survive with the dominance of the ruling NDC and a stiff opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), he said: “We might as well pose that question to the President. If the President can do it, we can do it as well.”

The NDP flag has a white “iconic” dove against a red background on top on the NDP initials, which is in green, with a black Gye Nyame symbol on the beak of the dove. The full name of the party in white is written at the bottom of flag.

According to the chairmen, the party will focus on green-agenda-agriculture-based governance and also make democracy meaningful to everyone.

Rawlings & Kufuor agreed that Indemnity Clause be retained

The Chairman of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC), Professor Albert Kodzo Fiadjoe, has revealed that all former Presidents who spoke to the CRC accepted that the Indemnity Clause in the 1992 Constitution be maintained.

According to Professor Fiadjoe, any attempt to expunge the Indemnity Clause from the Constitution will mean that all governments from 1966 have operated illegally.

Professor Fiadjoe was speaking at a two-day southern sector engagement with the media on the report of the Commission and the government White Paper issued on the report.

He said “if these provisions are removed then it means that all governments since 1966 are automatically illegal and if they are illegal then the present administration too is illegal.
“If you say we should remove this, what you’re also saying is that the national reconciliation exercise to which the country devoted a lot of attention and manpower is useless.”

“So the question is, of what use is it to the nation to remove this now and cause convulsion to declare all our work illegal?” Prof. Fiadjoe added.

Rawlings' Tribute to the late President Mills

For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. – Romans 14:8

My earliest memory of John Evans Atta Mills was as a sportsman at Achimota School.

Though Prof, as I preferred to call him, served in several institutional capacities during my tenure as Head of State, close contact was renewed when he was nominated and subsequently confirmed as Vice-President when the NDC won the December 1996 Presidential elections.

Professor Mills was an outstanding Vice-President, gifted with an excellent retentive memory and served his role with full merit. He had an excellent sense of punctuality, which can best be described as non-Ghanaian.

Having won my respect and admiration, there was no hesitation when I had to nominate him as Presidential candidate for the NDC. Prof had often presided over cabinet, as Vice-President, so I sought the opinions of the ministers to confirm if they thought he was good enough to be President and the response was overwhelming.

Against strong opposition from some within the party, I stood by the Prof and gave him full support after the electoral misfortunes of 2000 and 2004 because I was convinced he had the capacity to be an excellent President, having excelled as Vice-President.

Prof, you came into office with your dignity and integrity intact. I do recall some of the night briefings you used to give me especially after cabinet meetings and how I insisted you stand your ground when a few errant appointees attempted to test your integrity.

A lot has passed under the bridge since the hard fought electoral victory of 2008. While many may perceive my criticism of the Prof as ill conceived, I was not going to look away while a man with such great potential was led astray from the ideals that we fought for; from the ideals that the NDC stood for.

We waged a stout political campaign in 2008 and those who really cared for the Prof deserved to speak the truth to help him succeed as President.

My final meeting with Prof before he passed away was on Thursday July 5 at the Castle. During our meeting we expressed our mutual respect for each other as was always the case and news of his departure on July 24 came with cold pain.

Fare thee well Prof. Damirifa Due.

Kobby Acheampong: Maturity Comes With Age…But Not So With Rawlings

Former President Rawlings’ recent comments on the death of President John Evans Atta Mills in an interview with the BBC, seems to have incurred the wrath of virtually every stalwart in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).The latest to openly condemn his (Rawlings) remarks is the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Kobby Acheampong. In an implied manner, Kobby Acheampong used an adage to describe the former President as immature.

“Former president Rawlings, he thinks when he isn’t in control, then everything else doesn’t work… and that he is the only wise man among a nation of twenty-five million people? The answer is a “NO”! One head can’t contain all the wisdom and two heads are better than one… you see, we always say there is maturity with age, but I am seeing the reverse happening actually at this time,” he said.

The Deputy Minister for the Interior further stated that ever since the late president was sworn in, Mr Rawlings has been consistent in his uncomplimentary remarks about him (Mills) and stressed that the time has come for the NDC to boldly tell the ex-president that enough is enough.

“We’ve allowed this thing to fester; to the point where he thinks everything he says is what is right and he can disparage anybody and get away with it…You know this thing must stop at a point,” he said.
President Mills died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at about 14:15 hours (GMT) at the 37 Military Hospital. Though the autopsy report is yet to be made ready, former President Rawlings, told the BBC World Service in Congo Brazzaville on Wednesday, that though he was shocked to hear the news of the death of Prof Mills, it did not come to him as a surprise. He revealed that Mills suffered from cancer which affected both his eye and his ear, and "he couldn’t sustain it more than three hours per day."

“Quite frankly, I think had he been advised and done something wiser earlier on, he could probably have survived for another six, seven months I guess, but he got too tight, he got extremely tight and the poor professor passed away,” Mr Rawlings said.

But the deputy Interior Minister considers the comments as distateful and accused the former president of trying to hold himself to be wiser than the entire Ghanaian population.

To him, Mr Rawlings’ jab in the said interview with the BBC was not only directed at Prof Mills, but also at his successor, President John Dramani Mahama. He added that the ex-president and NDC Founder was being disingenuous by somewhat scoffing at President Mahama’s ability to perform as president, when he (Rawlings) had once appointed him (Mahama) as a minister.

“Our telecommunication laws, our telecommunication industry had a certain ambit due to the current president, and yet, you (Rawlings) find it possible to say you don’t know whether he will be able to achieve...We are tired of this, you don’t denigrate a person even into his grave, because he has no right of response...but we, the living, will respond for him,” Kobby Acheampong said.-PEACEFMONLINE

Mills' Wife Shocks Rawlings...As She Sacks Him From Their Home

As the nation observes the week of the death of President J.E.A. Mills, former President JJ Rawlings had the shock of his life when Dr. Mrs Naadu Mills yesterday asked him not to step into her home at the Regimanuel Grey Estate in Accra.

The former President yesterday sneaked out of his residence to go and pay a courtesy call on the otherwise quiet widow, whose husband he ‘bad-mouthed’ on international platform upon hearing of his death.

The Enquirer newspaper was reliably informed that when former President Rawlings got to the house, the members of the National House of Chiefs, led by Prof. Naa John Nabila, were already at the residence to console the bereaved former first lady.

The Enquirer’s flawless sources present at the private residence of the late President said when word got to the widow, she asked Prof. Nabila to go and diplomatically tell the former President not to step anywhere closer to her house.

The late President’s wife is said to be still shocked at what former President Rawlings said about the man he brought into the political limelight.

Although, the former President’s office was quick to make a u-turn by apologizing for his comments, he went ahead to write other more damaging remarks in his tribute in the Book of Condolence.

Naadu Mills wanted President Mills to step down but.........

The former first lady Ernestina Naadu Mills wanted her husband Professor John Evans Atta Mills to step down due to his ill health.

The National Security Advisor, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah said “He (Mills) told me General, my wife has advised me to step down, but I (General Nunoo- Mensah) told him that God is in control and has put him there…so he can’t leave and abandon his people,"
The twice Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces said he was privy to some of these vital information because of the very good rapport that existed between him and the late president.

“Sometimes he calls me and I go to him, we spoke in Fante…for a long time we talked together and I gave him great respect as my president and he in return respected me as being a little bit older than him. We talked a lot about life and things that were personal to him and funny enough we shared the same views. When I look at my background and his background, we have so many things in common…we used to share ideas and I liked to encourage him…Sometimes he calls me general…I haven’t done anything but they keep heaping insults on me and abusing me. Then I tell him, Mr. President, I want to urge you to read the book of Job. They tore Job into pieces but he didn’t abandon God…so have faith in God and stay strong,” were some of the words Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah said he used to spur the late president on.

President Mills family reply Rawlings

The family of the late President John Atta Mills has hit back at ex-President Rawlings saying they have soaked up the un-dignified insults against the late Prof. Mills for the past three years but are thus “provoked to face up to those whose minds continue to ferment such uncouth, derogatory, uncensored insults and from whose lips they spew."

A statement signed by Abusuapanyin Nkuma-Kyerba Twidan on behalf of the family in response to comments by the ex-President said “Our Son died in a bed, at peace with himself, and with dignity in the eyes of equally well-thinking men. Such a kind fate may not befall those tempted to stride the world as rabble-rousing tin-gods.”

According to him, the family has had enough of the constant attacks on the person of the late President Mills whose only fault, according to them, was seeking to serve his country.

Rawlings Should Keep His Mouth Shut And Hide - Kofi Wayo

Kofi Wayo is up again! He has told the Founder of the National Democratic Congress to stop making denigrating remarks about the dead president. He expressed his sadness about the death of the president.

Speaking in an interview with XYZ News, Kofi Wayo said he feels bad about the death of President Mills and wishes him fare well adding that Mills will go to heaven because he was a virtuous man.
“I don’t know what is wrong with that guy [Rawlings] but you people are the ones who keep urging him on. The [NDC] should have cut him off a long time ago.

“He was a President for nineteen years, what did he change. If I was him I would just keep my mouth shut and hide. “What did he do for Ghana, we still don’t have water, light and factories and he is still not ashamed of himself and keeps talking.

“He has been attacking this guy [Mills] from day one now he is dead, what is he going to do now?” Mr. Wayo asked.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuije: Rawlings' Remarks Can Stir Up Naadu’s Grief…She Is Deeply Appalled By Them

Nii Lantey Vanderpuije yesterday speaking on CITI FM'S eye witness news lambasted the former president for some of his speeches he has been making after the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuije claims Mrs Naadu Mills is “livid and appalled” by Mr Rawlings’ distasteful comments. According to him, the former First Lady was shocked that Mr. Rawlings could make such statements at a time when the whole nation is mourning the death of her husband.

“His comments have made situation worse and horrible…I have talked to few people and I get the response that she is so appalled…,” Nii Lantey said.
This was a reaction to what Rawlings said on BBC that " Had Mills Done Something Wiser Earlier On; He Could Have Survived Another 7 Months - Rawlings"

But Nii Lantey, who is also the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Odododiodoo, considers the Founder of the NDC’s comments as a mark of total disrespect for the dead.

To him, irrespective of the seeming bad blood between Mr Rawlings and the late president, he (Rawlings) was hasty in his pronouncements which he felt were unnecessary and irresponsible.

Speaking in an interview with Shamima Muslim on the Citi Eye Witness News, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije said if he had his way the former First Family should forever remain unwelcome visitors to residence of the late president and never be allowed to pay any form of tribute to him (Mills) after making such unfortunate comments.

“…If it had been me; the sort of comments he has made, showing so much disrespect to the dead, I will do that (turn them away from the residence). Even if they have something against President Mills this is not the time to show it…if…I will not welcome them to my house…” he added.

Reached for his reaction, Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams quickly said “unfortunately, he (Nii Lantey) is not”.

Mr Adams also considers the Director of Operations at the Presidency as having no respect for his elders and offered a piece of advice to President John Dramani Mahama not to include him and others who behave in like manner in his communications team.

“…he (Nii Lantey) cannot by his comments turn people against anybody…you cannot do that...When I listened to him, I was shocked and I hope John Mahama does not include some of these persons speaking for him. If he does, he will have serious difficulties…” Kofi Adams said.

Had Mills Done Something Wiser Earlier On; He Could Have Survived Another 7 Months - Rawlings

According to the former president; Rawlings, Mills death could have been prevented if he had done something about it.

Speaking to the BBC World Service in Congo Brazzaville, the Founder of the governing party said though he was shocked to hear the news of the death of his once-beloved protégé, it did not come to him as a surprise.

He said that Mills had been battling with throat cancer and his death came at a wrong time since it was only left with about five months to the elections.

He revealed that the cancer that afflicted Mills, affected both his eye and his ear, and "he couldn’t sustain more than three hours per day."

The former president and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings are currently in Brazzaville, Congo. They are participating in activities marking the formal launch of Forbes Africa, at the invitation of President Denis Sassou N’Guesso.

Mr. Rawlings said: “It was quite a shock to my wife and I but it was not unexpected because he’s been battling the cancer for quite a while.

“This is certainly the wrong time for him to go considering that we have elections around the corner in December. Quite frankly, I think had he been advised and done something wiser earlier on, he could probably have survive for another six, seven months I guess, but he got too tight, he got extremely tight and the poor professor passed away.”

Rawlings added: “He’s played his part, as my Vice President I think he was one of the finest, he was indeed one of the finest, but there again considering that the cancer affected both his eye and his ear, he couldn’t sustain more than three hours per day".

The former President expressed disappointment at the fact that President Mills could not re-open the cases of “some of the cold blooded killings that took place before we came into office”.

“So that (cancer) was naturally going to affect his performance and that’s why I think he would have done just as well or even better. The only unfortunate thing is that some of the cold blooded killings that took place before we came into office could not be re-investigated. I would have wished he had really done that.

“Let’s see what can be done with the time that is left.”

Asked about what he thought about the current President, John Dramani Mahama, former President Rawlings said “I don’t know but I hope so.”-iNewsGh
