Do any inquest but don't disturb our son's body - Mills' family

The family of the late president John Mills say they welcome any decision taken by government on a possible inquest into Mills' death.

But they would rather the body of the late president is left alone to rest.

The comments by the family follow calls by the Ghana Medical Association for a presidential inquest to be ordered in order to unravel the cause of death of President John Mills.

The GMA’s call adds to similar pleas by other civil society groups and individuals for the public to be informed about the cause of death of the president.

The Association in its letter of condolence said it wanted a presidential inquest to further back the report of the coroner which they say may not demystify the circumstance surrounding the president’s death.

GMA President, Kwabena Opoku Adusei told Joy News the inquiry will provide valuable insight that could help avert similar occurrence in the future.

“There have been so many stories about how the president of the Republic of Ghana died. Either he died in the office, on the way to the hospital or at the hospital. We are appealing to the sitting president now, to let us know whether there was a systemic failure so that we can improve on the system for the future,” he said.

He said the stories surrounding the death of the late president were contradictory, insisting an inquest into the death of the death of the president is needed.

But the Head of family, Ato Henry Brew told Joy News any investigations should not disturb the peaceful rest of their son.

He said whatever the government finds suitable to be done, they are okay with it, but they would rather the corpse be left alone to rest.

Asked if the findings of a possible inquest be made public, Ato Henry Brew said: “Whatever the government says, [we are okay]. “If it should be exposed, why not; if not why not?”
