NDC came to do nothing; they are not capable of doing anything – Akufo-Addo

The Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has attacked the governing NDC for what he calls its spectacular failure to provide a single housing unit for Ghanaians.

Outlining his policy on housing when he addressed members of the Ghana Real Estates Developers Association earlier today, the NPP presidential candidate highlighted rental housing, as the biggest challenge confronting the housing industry and plaguing Ghanaians today.

Nana Addo criticized the NDC administration for failing to address the housing needs of the country, after several unsuccessful attempts to secure a deal with foreign companies to construct affordable houses for security agencies.

He pointed to the failed STX deal and the delayed GUMA housing deal as proof of the ruling party’s inability to manage the affairs of the country.

The NPP flagbearer faulted the NDC for abandoning the affordable housing project initiated by ex-president John Agyakum Kufuor shortly before the NPP exited power, which he noted “could have seen about 6,000 Ghanaians have the right to live in well constructed houses”.

“It is time to rid this nation of this do nothing insensitive government, they did not come to do anything, they have done anything and they are not capable of doing anything. Let’s get rid of them let’s vote for the NPP and move Ghana forward,” he stated.

He vowed to complete all the housing projects started by the Kufuor administration if the NPP was voted back to power.

He said an NPP administration will make it a priority for local companies to play key roles in helping to reduce the challenges of housing deficits and encourage Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to embark on programs that will deal with the phenomenal demand of excessive rent advance payments by landlords.

According to him, local assemblies will be supported to set up District Housing Funds, to provide infrastructure for rental housing schemes to newly engaged workers and head porters known commonly as “Kayayei”.
