The Brazilian playmaker has been on the fringes at Real this season, only making his first seasonal appearance in the friendly against Millionaros last week, but was given his first competitive start in Amsterdam tonight and responded with a vibrant performance and an assist for Karim Benzema's overhead kick.
“It was surprising to be in the line-up, but this has been a personal achievement,” the former Milan maestro told Spanish TV after Los Blancos Champions League triumph.
“I feel great, the work is giving its results. This is a very difficult group, and it was an important victory in an important week.”
Real now turn their attention to Sunday's Clasico, where they must try and cut Barcelona's eight point La Liga lead.
“We're not going to think of a defeat v Barca,” Kaka added. “We must focus on preparing for the match, time will tell.”
