The President’s whose plane touched down at about 21:30 GMT said even though he has only nine weeks to campaign before December 7, he has no doubt in his mind that Ghanaians will give him the mandate based on the strong track record of the NDC’s Better Ghana agenda.
Addressing a group of journalists at the VVIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport, President Mahama said he is not perturbed by the fact that his opponents have virtually crisscrossed the length and breadth of the nation and that he is certain that victory will be his.
"There is a lot of hard work to do. We have exactly nine weeks to the election. I'm going to go around the country. Some of our opponents have gone round the country seven times already. We will go round the country even once, yet we will win this election," the president said.
He called on Ghanaians to protect the country’s democracy ahead of the December polls and ensure that nobody plants a seed of discord among the citizens.
Addressing the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, President Mahama called on the world to come and witness another milestone in the country’s democratic credentials on December 7.
He also promised the international community that he will make sure Ghana does not become a safe haven for people who want to launch attacks on the country’s neighbours.
President Mahama has since held several meetings with Ghanaians and businesses in the US as part of the trip. His return marks the real commencement of the NDC’s campaign with the launch of the party’s manifesto in the course of the week.
