According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa the opposition
New Patriotic Party (NPP) seems edgy and fascinated about the participation
of the Special Forces Unit of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Tuesday’s
55th Ghana's independence day parade
He has thus rubbished claims by the NPP that they (opposition) have
been vindicated in their position that the governing party is up to some
electoral mischief.
The NPP claims that the creation of the Special Forces Unit within
the GAF and their presence at the Parade grounds on Tuesday, cements
the accusation that government is bent on intimidating members of the
opposition especially in the Ashanti Region and other strongholds.
NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, in an interview with Citi
FM said though their worst fears have been confirmed, they will
closely monitor the situation and match the NDC boot for boot in
December, adding that they have "pictorial evidence of what is going on
and will expose the ruling party at the appropriate time".
“We know that the NDC is training people at Asutsuare and
elsewhere...We are aware of what they are doing and we have photographs
of people who are being trained at Asutsuare and elsewhere and so at the
appropriate time this will be made available to the good people of this
country; if they think that they are doing this on the quiet and that
nobody knows. The very people they are training, some of them come to
tell us what is happening and we have pictorial evidence," he disclosed.
However, speaking in an interview on the same station, the Deputy
Information Minister said the opposition NPP seems easily intimidated
and edgy. To him, there is no need for one to feel agitated because
whatever security measures President Mills intends putting in place is
for the good of the country.
“…Life is not all about elections…The mindset of the NPP is election
and power and nothing else and it is about time they change their
perception. As the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, the President
is ready to make sure the country is safe and that life and property
are protected. If they raise all these accusations it means they really
mean to do something with their ‘all-die-be-die’ mantra…,” he said.
