Former Mali international Frederic Kanoute will be hosting a
charity football match during the 5th edition of the Champion for Africa
campaign, initiated by the player’s foundation to fight against child
malnutrition.
The gala match will be played at the Ramon Sanchez stadium located in central Seville, where the 35-year-old striker played seven seasons before joining Chinese side Beijing Guoan last June.
A team from Mali will face Sevilla FC, with Kanoute set to play with each side during both halves of the encounter, according to organisers.
As innovation for this year’s edition, Kanoute has decided to create a virtual channel between Seville and Malian capital Bamako, to allow followers of the event to form a chain connecting the two cities by exchanging paid SMS messages.
Funds raised from the exercise including game tickets will be used to improve the living conditions at orphanage homes in Mali.![]()
