Education experts gave NPP the green light on free SHS - MP

Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi, Member of Parliament for Techiman North and former Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that Nana Akufo- Addo’s free Senior High School (SHS) education campaign promise is feasible.

According to him a group of educational think tanks and policy consultants were contacted before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) adopted policy into its manifesto.

Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi, who was also former Minister of Ports and Harbours in the Kufuor regime, made this known at the Inauguration of the Senior Patriots Club of the University of Education Winneba (UEW) branch in Winneba.

He described as falsehood claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign team that the policy would affect basic education.

Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi, currently a Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, therefore urged Ghanaians to ignore the NDC communicators and Ministers who cast doubts on the implementation of a free SHS by the NPP.

He said the NPP has facts and figures on how the policy would be implemented to help Ghanaian children who are less privileged to have access to SHS education.

The former Minister said funds for the policy would not be sourced from outside the country, but rather revenues from the oil, the GETFund and other sources.

He said the problems of supervision and teacher motivation would be addressed to encourage teachers and other non-teaching staffs to help move the policy forward.

Mr Samuel Kweku Boafo, former Ashanti Regional Minister, urged students who are mostly members of the Youth wing of NPP to intensify their campaign and educate parents about the importance of a free SHS policy.

He said the NDS’s claim that a free SHS is only attainable in 20 years time cannot be true, adding that Ghanaians cannot wait for that many years before all children can get free SHS education.

Dr Henry Augustine Puffa, Chairman of the Senior Patriots Club of UEW, said the NPP has a dream team to take Ghanaians to the Promised Land.

He added that the club would assist the Effutu NPP to wrest power from the NDC in the December 7, elections.

Leave My Face Alone - kwadwo Nkansah Liwin

Ghanaian comedian and actor Liwin, aka Kojo Amponsah, has expressed displeasure at the unlawful use of his photos by publicists to promote movies he is not a part of.

According to the actor’s management, the act is tarnishing the actor’s image and it is also deceiving his fans.

Abdul Razak Amissah, manager of Liwin told Hitz Entertainment, the actor is “very furious because promoters are trying to tarnish the boy’s image and he is not happy about it.” “As a manager, I am also not happy about it because I don’t see why they are doing that, whether it is hatred or somebody is a having a problem with him.”

Razak disclosed that they have contacted the Film Producers Association of Ghana and the Akan Film Producers Association of Ghana to lodge a formal complaint about the issue.

Liwin is currently one of Ghana’s biggest movie stars featuring in several productions including Azonto Ghost, Mogya Kronkron, Sika Kasa, Bonsam Bofo, Obaa Nti and Agye Nyame Bamu.

At 24, Liwin is very particular about his looks especially what people say about his face. He makes no secret about his annoyance with people who say that he is ugly; perhaps the ugliest actor in Ghana. He told Showbiz last July, “Anybody who complains that I’m not handsome enough for movies doesn’t know the meaning of handsome”, he said.
“Handsomeness to me is determined by a person’s eyes. I have the sexiest eyeballs that any movie actor can have and that makes me unique. Almost on a daily basis, I get admirers, mostly ladies, who tell me that I’m handsome.

“I almost wept when a pretty lady met me the other day and said, ‘you’re not that bad so why do people keep insulting you that you’re ugly?’. After she left, I almost wept”.

Talking about how he came by the name Liwin, the actor told Showbiz that he and American rapper Lil Wayne look very much alike. “I say this all the time but people think I’m kidding. Lil Wayne and I share similar eyeballs, same height and same body size”.

Anas abortion doctor bonked 92 girls...Still at post

Joshua Drah, the quack medical doctor of Madina-based Mission Clinic who was recently caught on a secretly recorded video forcing his female patients to have unprotected sex with him right in his theater, actually bonked 92 of pregnant women and girls who went to him for abortion.

This was revealed by mysterious investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas, speaking at the ongoing African Investigative Journalism Conference at the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, said the ‘doctor’ had confessed to police that 92 of the pregnant patients became victims of his unruly libido.

Interestingly, he is still working at the facility that has shockingly not been closed down. The video was secretly recorded by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who went working undercover at the private clinic and captured the doctor bonking several ladies of all ages before performing illegal abortions on them.

The must-watch video had mind-boggling scenes with brutal sex acts.

For the three months that Anas worked undercover at the private clinic, Dr. Drah was captured on video having sex with several of his pregnant patients. Interestingly, the doctor had unprotected sex with the ladies he barely knew.

He would normally make the ladies strip naked and then start to insert his finger into their genitals as if that was an important part of the abortion procedure. Dr. Drah would then explain that the ladies’ sex organ was too ‘closed up’ and that the only solution to make the abortion successful was for him to use his penis to ‘wet’ and ‘loosen up’ the sex organs a bit.

Left without a choice, the ladies would just lay on the operation table as they watched him enter them while standing. He used a type of sex position popularly known as ‘jinahogye’.

Anas was speaking at the three-day conference under the theme ‘The Art of Undercover Journalism.’ The award-winning investigative journalist said he was not bothered by name-calling and criticisms and said he was glad to have taken the first step to address societal challenges. “Some people think what I do is not journalism, standing in law courts to testify against people I investigate.

I want to see real change in society… Undercover journalism gives you hard core evidence,” he said, but “all the rules are observed, back up team, security protocol all put in place”.

Wearing a human-face like mask to cover his identity, Anas revealed how difficult and dangerous it had always been for him and team members, especially on security, in search of “hard core evidence”.

On the issue of why Anas did not end investigations with the first victim in the Wild Ghana story, he said he needed more incriminating evidence against the ‘Abortion Lord’. “I had to prove first a prima facie case against the man under investigation and I am sorry I did not stop at one until I captured the fourth woman,” he explained.

Anas Aremeyaw recently won the Young Achievers Award in Ghana but the award was collected on his behalf whilst he was away on Aljazeera’s Africa Investigates Project.

Load shedding to be experienced only on off periods

The Energy Ministry has announced that the load shedding programme will be experienced only during off peak periods starting from Monday, November 5.

This new schedule comes ahead of an expected delivery of fuel supply to integrate the system, by November 15.

This implies all areas which were originally on the load shedding list will have electricity in the mornings and experience blackout in the evenings.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, a Deputy Energy Minister, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini explained that “the full complement of the fuel required to fully integrate the system should be in the country by 15th November. The first batch of fuel supply is being off loaded now and we expect it to be ready for use by Monday, 5th November.”

This according to him will completely eliminate the load shedding programme for off peak from Monday, 5th November.

Alhaji Fuseini revealed that in the long term, government will focus on exploiting the use of natural gas from the Jubilee field for power generation.

He said: “Government is seriously working around the clock with contractors of the gas processing plant at Atoabo to ensure that the contractors complete the project on schedule. This will reduce our reliance on Nigeria for natural gas to fire power plants.”

He added that government in collaboration with the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Energy Commission is considering the construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal gas to allow the importation of energy “which will guarantee a more secured power supply to the people of Ghana.”

ADDRESSING THE POLITICS OF INSULTS

  When I was young, my mother used to rebuke me whenever she caught me insulting someone whether old or young.The situation was no different from what was happening in my friend's house.My friends and I therefore grew up knowing our traditional values.However, whenever I listen to radio these days, what I realized is that politics of insults has eaten into the moral fiber of the country. Whenever I hear politics insulting themselves, I remember the rebukes of my mother and the question I ask myself is Have the Ghanaian values and traditions being lost to politics.


    What I have to say is that there is more to politics of insults than it's meet the eye.Politics of insults have became rampant because Ghanaian have resulted to over-abusing the Freedom of Speech and I think that this is a bad development.Before I continue I would like to quote  Winstom Churchill 'Democracy is a bad form of  government, unfortunately, all the others are much worse. This clearly shows that i am by no means against democracy because it has stood the test of time. What we must know is that we must make sure we blend our traditional values with democracy and in this case we have to made engage in the spreading of moralities.. I would also like to quote Mahatma Gadhi and here he says ' you must open the windows of your mind but you must not be swept by your feet'. We must not allow politics to sweep away our moralities because we have a custom and tradition to protect.


   How would you feel if your two-year old son insult you? Your guess is as good as mine.In the same vein, it is equally obnoxious when people insult people who are old enough to be their parents in the name of politics.We must not be blindly by politics because as I said we have our traditional values to protect. We must not be like the Islamic proverbial tiger who pretends to be a Muslim but he isn't deep down in his heart.We must respect the elderly because almost every religion and traditional values speak on it.It is therefore no mistake when the Bible says 'Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right'.


    In short, we must all help in pushing politics of insults back to where it belongs:the gutters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Hotel of Doom' to be open next year

The 105-storey hotel which dominates the skyline of the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, may open next year, 26 years after construction began.

The pyramid-shaped building has become known as the "Hotel of Doom".
The chief executive of the Kempinski group, which will manage the Ryugyong hotel, said only 150 rooms on the top floors would be used as a hotel.
Reto Wittwer said shops, restaurants and offices would eventually open on the lower levels.
Construction on the building began in 1987.
It is the 47th tallest building in the world, at 330m (1,100ft), and has the fifth greatest number of floors, 105.

 Abandoned

It was scheduled to be completed in 1989 in time for the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students.

But construction was abandoned in 1992 when North Korea suffered an economic crisis.
Its hulking, unfinished presence has long been an embarrassment for the North Korean leadership, analysts say.
It was voted "Worst Building in the History of Mankind" by Esquire magazine in 2008.
The American publication called it "hideously ugly, even by communist standards."
 There are reports of poor construction and the use of inferior materials.

A delegation from the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea, which inspected the building almost 15 years ago, concluded it was beyond repair and its lift shafts crooked.
But in 2008 an Egyptian company, Orascom Telecom, which operates a mobile phone network in North Korea, began equipping the building.
 'Multi-storey carpark'
It is reported to have spent $180m (£112m) on finishing the hotel's facade.
Mr Wittwer said the hotel will "partially, probably" open for business next year.
But original plans for 3,000 hotel rooms and three revolving restaurants have been greatly scaled back.
Earlier this year, the Beijing-based company, Koryo Tours, which organises trips to North Korea, was granted a rare glimpse inside the hotel.

Facebook flaw bypasses password protections

Facebook has moved quickly to shut down a loophole which made some accounts accessible without a password.

The bug was exposed in a message posted to the Hacker News website.
The message contained a search string that, when used on Google, returned a list of links to 1.32 million Facebook accounts.
In some cases clicking on a link logged in to that account without the need for a password. All the links exposed the email addresses of Facebook users.

Throwaway account
 
The message posted to Hacker News used a search syntax that exposed a system used by Facebook that lets users quickly log back in to their account.
Email alerts about status updates and notifications often contain a link that lets a user of the social network respond quickly by clicking it to log in in to their account.
In a comment added to the Hacker News message, Facebook security engineer Matt Jones said the links were typically only sent to the email addresses of account holders. Links sent in this way can only be clicked once.

"For a search engine to come across these links, the content of the emails would need to have been posted online," he wrote. Mr Jones suspected this is what happened as many of the email addresses exposed were for throwaway mail sites or for services that did a bad job of protecting archived messages.

Most of the million or so links exposed would already have expired, said Mr Jones.
"Regardless, due to some of these links being disclosed, we've turned the feature off until we can better ensure its security for users whose email contents are publicly visible," he said.
Mr Jones added that Facebook had taken steps to secure the accounts of people who had been exposed by the flaw. Many of the exposed accounts were in Russia and China.
In an official statement, Facebook said the links were sent "directly to private email addresses to help people easily access their accounts, and we never made them publicly available or crawlable."
However, it said, the links were then posted elsewhere online which lead to them being indexed on search engines.

It said: "While we have always had protections on these private links to provide an additional layer of security, we have since disabled their functionality completely and are remediating the accounts of anyone who recently used this feature."

Michael Jackson Named Highest Earning Dead Musician

Michael Jackson has been named the world's highest earning dead musician in a new list published by Forbes magazine.
The singer, who passed away in 2009, posthumously earned $145 million in the year running from 2011 to 2012, placing him ahead of Elvis Presley and Bob Marley on the chart.
Elvis, who died in 1977, made $55 million, which is said to be the same amount pulled in by living pop star Justin Bieber in the same period.
Reggae musician Bob Marley, who died in 1981, earned $15 million placing him in the third spot.
Late Beatles member John Lennon died in 1980 but he came fourth on the list after his music made him $12 million.
Musicals composer Richard Rogers banked $6 million and John's Beatles bandmate George Harrison made an estimated $5.5million.
According to the magazine, no other dead musicians earned more than $5 million last year but Jimi Hendrix, Les Paul and Tupac Shaker were said to be not far off.

Opinion: Why vote for NPP

FOLKS:

As Ghanaians prepare to elect their leader on December 7, 2012, I present to readers 50 of the 822 promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prior to the 2008 general elections. Kindly read and make your own judgment about the Caretaker president, John Mahama and his party as he lies to you again.

1. They NDC promised to reduce fuel prices drastically – a gallon of petrol has increased from GHC3.60 a gallon in 2008 to GHC8.0, showing a drastic increase in price in the last 4 years.

2. The NDC promised to make Ghanaians pay one-time premium for the NHIS – The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has collapsed as the one-time premium has given way to “Capitation” and Cash and Carry system.

3. The NDC promised to give 40% of ministerial appointments to women – Only 11% appointments has been made so far and the maltreatment of Nana Konadu Agyemang and other female journalists are clear examples. NDC has only 4 female MPs as against NPP’s 14.

4. The NDC will build 200,000 houses within 5yrs through the STX Korea deal and 30,000 of the houses would be given to the security officers – STX Korea deal is dead and the government of Ghana was forced to pay over $260m abrogation cost.

5. They promised to put money in your pockets – in the end there have been astronomical increases in utility tariffs (electricity, water, gas) and school fees. Poverty is on the increase and the number of strike actions and demonstrations tell it all.

6. The NDC promised to cut down waste and profligate spending – The NDC purchased 5 military aircrafts at a cost of $250m. Another GHC48,000 had been spent on Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday, and GHC858m on judgment debts, including Woyome’s GHC51m. The NDC is building a $20m party headquarters in Accra. John Mahama’s salary is now GHC 12,000 per month excluding other allownaces.

7. The NDC promised to build a factory in each district in Ghana– Where can we find the factories? Instead, John Mahama is buying bulldozers to kill flies. Over 300 factories were sold by the P/NDC government.

8. The NDC vowed to force all their appointees to declare their assets within 6 months into office – however, none of the appointees has declared any asset since 2009.

9. The NDC promised to set up a truly non-partisan and competent commission on the murders of Ya Na and Issah Mobila, and prosecute the killers – There is no evidence for prosecution according to Kofi Adams.

10. The NDC promised to stop the appointment of MPs and Ministers to positions of Chairman of Public Sector Companies to avoid intrusion of the party - Board Chairman of GETFund is Kwabena Adjei (NDC Chairman), Board Chairman of Road Fund - Joe Gidisu (MP and Minister of Roads and Highways), Board Chairman of NHIS, Doe Adjaho (MP and 1st Dep. Speaker of Parliament). Board Chairman of Ghana Civil Aviation, Alban S.K. Bagbin (MP and Minister of Health).

11. The NDC promised to clear all filth in the cities within 100 days – Cholera outbreak is the order of the day. Ghana is ranked the 2nd dirtiest country in West Africa.

12. The NDC promised to improve the country’s education at all levels – the BECE has recorded worst results since 2009. Only tea cups embossed with the president’s portrait have been given to these pupils. John Mahama is asking for more years to do that.

13. The NDC promised to build 2 universities in Volta and Brong-Ahafo Regions in the “Action Year” (2011) – The construction sites have now turned into zoological gardens. The School of Forestry in Sunyani and the Nurses’ Training College are being converted into Universities instead.

14. The NDC promised to eliminate all schools under trees – In spite of the oil revenue; several schools are still under trees. According to 2011 Budget Statement, only 175 ‘schools under tress’ had been eliminated but the NDC claims to have built 1,700. The NDC has failed to publish the said schools after persistent appeals by concerned citizens.

15. The NDC promised to provide all basic school pupils with school uniforms - for nearly 4 yrs only 20% of the pupils have received the free school uniforms after all the noise about the distribution.

16. The NDC promised to expand the school feeding programme to cover all basic schools – that did not happen as some schools in NPP strongholds were removed from the programme whilst those in the NDC strongholds have been included.

17. The NDC promised to make armed robbery a thing of the past – Social vices are on the increase. Police officers are being killed by armed robbers.

18. The NDC promised to provide meaningful jobs to the Ghanaian youth – For the first time in the history of Ghana, there is an Association of Unemployed Graduates, and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a Dep. Minister of Local Government calls them lazy people and sees them as an evil group.

19. The NDC promised to generate funds internally and not rely on IMF, World Bank or foreign loans – Surprisingly, Mills-Mahama NDC government has secured over GHC18bn loan abroad. Another $3bn from China is in the pipeline. According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s debt stands at GHC25.3m as at 2011.

20. The NDC promised to bridge the poverty gap between the north and the south – Poverty between the north and the south is widening.

21. The NDC promised to put GHC200m into the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) every year – In the 2011 Budget Statement, only GHC8m was voted into it. SADA has come to a standstill.

22. The NDC promised to build the Eastern and Western corridor infrastructure – That was a camouflage as this project keeps finding itself in the Budget Statements every year.

23. The NDC promised to prosecute all corrupt ministers and appointees without asking for evidence – What happened to “Kyinkyinka” Muntaka (pampers), Mahama Ayarega (tractors), Carl Wilson (imported vehicles), and Asiedu Nketia (block making)? Why are Mills’ appointees committing gargantuan crimes against the state? Why did Mills sack his former Attorney-General, Hon. Martin Amidu?

24. The late NDC leader promised to be a father of all Ghanaians – Selective justice has replaced the “father for all mantra”. Why did Mills direct his DCEs/MDCEs to open their doors for only NDC members and sympathizers? Why arrest Hon. Ken Agyepong and leave Nii Lamptey Vanderpuije?

25. The NDC promised to do away with politics of vendetta – Why did the president order his appointees, especially Victor Smith, to seize vehicles and offices belonging to his political opponents? What has happened to ex-president Kufuor’s End of Service Benefits? Why did the Mills-Mahama government file 13 high profile court cases against his political opponents and lost them all?

26. The NDC promised to turn the Golden Jubilee House into a poultry farm - Why is the place being occupied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the current vice president?

27. The NDC promised to abrogate the Ghana Telecom sale to Vodafone – What are you waiting for, Mr. President? Vodafone is the leading mobile network in Ghana today.

28. The NDC promised to probe the Ghana @ 50 celebrations and prosecute all those who misappropriated and misapplied public funds – What came out of the reports by the 23 Commissions of Enquiry set up by the president?

29. The NDC promised to modernize agriculture – Agriculture has seen a consistent decline in growth since 2009. Post harvest losses are high. How many of the existing agricultural problems have been solved by the current administration?

30. The NDC promised to cut down rice importation by 50% - Rice importation has increased from $400m to $700m annually. The price of a bag of rice sold at GH48 is now GHC75.

31. The NDC promised to build airports in Cape Coast and Tamale and also build the Kotokoraba market – We are still waiting for these projects to start.

32. The NDC promised to improve infrastructure in the country – the late President had to bow his head down in shame when he passed through some of the roads. Is the Sofoline interchange in Kumasi part of the infrastructure?

33. The NDC promised to expand all social interventions introduced by my predecessor – most of the interventions, e.g. NHIS and free maternal care have collapsed and now maternal mortality is on the increase.

34. The NDC promised that their leader would never be a globe-trotter like Kufuor – By the help of the Presidential Jet, John Mahama has travelled around the globe more than any Ghanaian leader. As for the travels made by the late president, the least said about him, the better. He went to Japan, made a u-turn for the Population Census and disappeared the following day. Similarly, he left for the US for 6 weeks, returned to Ghana for 3 days and went back to the US under the pretence of meeting investors during the Christmas period, not knowing he was seeking medical attention.

35. The NDC promised to make full investigations into the serial killings of women that occurred between 1999 and 2000 – We are still waiting.

36. The NDC promised to do away with the introduction new taxes – however, several new taxes, including Akpetshie, airport, and environmental taxes have been introduced.

37. The NDC promised to wage war against narcotics trade – Cocaine turns into soda under the NDC government. On September 25, the UK Border Force seized about 7.5 kilos of cocaine valued at 750,000 at Heathrow. Another 1.5 metric tonnes of cannabis (wee) valued at £4.3m was seized in the same week and it was described as the biggest haul in three years.

38. The NDC promised to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections – the Biometric Voters’ Registration exercise turned into violence. What happened at Akwatia, Chereponi, and Atiwa during the by-elections?

39. The NDC under Mills promised to burn Ghana like Kenya if the elections go the other way – Fire outbreaks, mining disasters; floods have characterized Mahama-Amissah-Arthur administration.

40. The NDC promised to ensure a level playing field for the 2012 elections – Today some police officers are registering foreigners in Togo, the EC has been registering NDC members in Ghanaian embassies.

41. The NDC promised to strengthen all state institutions - CHRAJ, EOCO, EC, PURC, GSS etc. – It took more than 2 years before the Population and Housing Census figures were released. Ghana Statistical Service has been cooking inflation figures for the NDC government. Kwabena Adjei, NDC Chairman threatened to ‘kill the cat’, and 2 members of the EC have been alleged to have taken bribes.

42. The NDC promised to promote freedom of speech - This has been substituted with “causing fear and panic”. Nana Darkwah, Amina, and Hon. Ken Agyapong can tell you more about that.

43. The NDC promised to pay professional allowance to all professional teachers – In the end teachers who embarked on demonstration were sprayed with hot water. Others were stripped naked in front of their school children in Bawku.

44. The NDC promised to form a government on expertise and competence, not on party or family interests - Who are the 'bootlickers', 'greedy bastards', and the 'Team B' ministers? Why did the president sack Dr. Nsiah Asare and Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng of KATH and Cardio-thoracic centre respectively?

45. The NDC’s leader swore, and urged Ghanaians to try him and see. He promised not to disappoint Ghanaians because he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth – in the end mansions were built by President Mills through Regimanuel Estate but his Director of Communications described them as “token”.

46. The NDC’s leader said he was a better man for a BETTER GHANA – yet the party’s founder, J.J. Rawlings referred to Mills as “Konongo Kaya” and “Mortuaryman” as a result of his incompetence.

47. The NDC promised to give 10% of oil revenue to the people of Western Region – this promise was not fulfilled.

48. The late Mills promised to consult Rawlings 24 hours a day – Before his death, he was not on talking terms with former President Rawlings. The General Secretary of the NDC, John Asiedu Nketia has made the founder of the party a “barking dog”.

49. The NDC promised to heal wounds and unite the nation – the nation is polarized as the NDC continues to play the tribal card. The one-sided appointment in the current administration is there for everyone to see. The NDC has even failed to unite itself as a party.

50. The NDC promised that there would be no NPP Ghana or NDC Ghana – Ghana is seriously divided between NDC and NPP. Politics of ideas has given way to politics of insults.

Fellow Ghanaians, today the NDC under John Mahama is making similar promises with the view to retaining power. Do you trust this party that has ruled Ghana for 23 years – 11 years for P/NDC, and 12 years for NDC? What is the NDC’s legacy? Why don’t you join us in kicking this hypocritical, arrogant, deceitful, violent, and incompetent party out of power on December 7?

Let’s vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and all the NPP Parliamentary Aspirants in the upcoming elections. The Free SHS policy, the Teacher First policy, the Inner-city Development policy, the Housing, Economic, Industrial, and Health policies are all doable.

RE: DON’T BE ANY PARTY’S WORLD BANK – RAWLINGS TELLS VOLTARIANS


Dear Sir,


Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the November 1, 2012 edition of ‘The New Crusading Guide’ as captioned above.

We wish to state that it is not true that President Rawlings in his statement at the Nugoryiza festival of the people of Penyi in the Ketu North District cautioned them to avoid being the World Bank of any party.

It is also not true that he said there was no sincerity in the NDC government because it had wasted four years in office.

There is no doubt that President Rawlings does not hesitate to criticise matters of national and political importance, but we cannot accept a situation where some media people mischievously attribute statements to him. It is unethical.

We wonder if the author of the report was at the Nugoryiza festival, because President Rawlings read a short prepared script before speaking extempore for about ten minutes on the sacrifices some footsoldiers had made for their community and society.

This office has a copy of the unedited video coverage of the event and we will be glad to furnish you with a copy if required.

We will be grateful if you can correct as a matter of urgency the complete misrepresentation of facts by your reporter.

Thirty-four Dwamena Akenten SHS students punished for praying

A group of boarding students of the Dwamena Akenten Senior High School (SHS) in the Offinso Municipality have found themselves in trouble for persistently breaking school rules and regulations.

They would always sneak out of the school deep in the night to pray in a valley, a distance away from the compound.

The Headmaster, Mr K. O. Frimpong, said several warnings and counselling to persuade them to abandon the practice had been ignored with impunity, forcing the authorities to apply the appropriate sanctions.

He said all 34 students have been removed from the boarding house and made day-students.

Presenting his report at the inauguration of the school’s 13-member reconstituted board of governors, Mr Frimpong said they would continue to act decisively to check indiscipline.

That was the only way they could be assured of improved academic performance, he added.

Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Education Director, underlined the need for the board to work together with the school authorities to ensure its efficient management.

The members would have to become conversant with the board’s constitution, the Ghana Education Service (GES) policies and code of conduct so as to take the right decisions.
