Rawlingses Party Name Interim National Chairman

Unconfirmed reports reaching peacefmonline.com say a former National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been named as the Interim National Chairman of the new political party believed to have been formed by former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

Information gleaned from the corridors of the former First Family indicate that former General Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Nii Armah Josiah Aryeh, is the Interim National Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), reportedly 'owned' by the Rawlingses.

Some individuals have also already been designated to hold certain key positions under the new political party including Dr. Rockson Mamboi, an assocaite of Mrs Rawlings, who is the NDP's General Secretary.

A former NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso Central, Dr. Ofei Agyeman, in an interview on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo" Morning Show, admitted to Nana Yaw Kese, who is sitting in for the regular host and Olympic Torchbearer, Kwami Sefa Kayi that most of the founding members of this party are disgruntled members of the NDC.

He also revealed that they have already met with officials from the Electoral Commission to get the green light to participate fully in this year’s elections.

Josiah Aryeh, it would be recalled, hit the headlines in November 2004, over speculations that he had compromised his position by collecting $3,000 from the then ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the run-up to the December 7, 2004 general elections, after he had reportedly complained of financial problems after he was recoreded on tape.

Even though he denied the allegations and claimed he was framed up, the functional executive of the NDC suspended him indefinitely.

A committee was constituted then to investigate the circumstance but Dr Aryeh, in March this year told PeaceFM that he is yet to be furnished with the outcome of the committee's investigations; 8 years after the incident. It therefore comes as no surprise that he has joined ranks with this new political party said to be made up of former NDC cadres and activists.

The new party has its logo; a flying bird similar to the one on top of the famous umbrella of the NDC, using the same black, green, red and white colours as the ruling party. The only difference is that the bird, a dove in the NDP logo, is holding on to the ‘Gye Nyame Symbol with the motto ‘Justice, Unity, Peace and Progress.-PEACEFMONLINE
