Coach refers to Romario, Laudrup, Stoichkov and Koeman
Mourinho: "Johan Cruyff had four very good home-bred players"
Real Madrid coach José Mourinho responded to Dutchman Johan Cruyff’s criticism of the Portuguese.
Earlier in the week Cruyff had said that Mourinho did not use the
club's youth-team players enough, but the Real coach bit back with a
sarcastic reference to Ronald Koeman, Romario, Hristo Stoichkov and
Michael Laudrup who helped Cruyff win the then European Cup with
Barcelona.
Cruyff had criticised the Real Madrid coach saying that "he was not a good footballer" and spoken about Mourinho’s lack of interest in developing the club's young players: "It's better to develop players, than buy them."
The Portuguese responded to the former Barça coach's comments in a press conference: "The more young players we can have, the better. The more home-bred players, the better, but I don't really like to hear someone talk about how he likes to develop young players instead of buying them", he said.
"This guy won the European Cup just once and with four very good home-bred players called Koeman, Romario, Stoichkov and Laudrup", Mourinho added sarcastically in reference to the main stars of the 'dream team'.
